A bit about me……….

My name is Rab (a Scottish shortening of Robert) and I was brought up on a farm in the North East of Scotland. I have spent almost all of my working life in the oil industry having started offshore in the North Sea at the tender age of 19 back in 1984. It has also given me the opportunity to travel the world working in some amazing places. I moved to South Africa (Cape Town) in late 2001 and met my wife Jacqui a few years later. We got married in 2009 and I’m very settled here now.

In July 2017 I was made redundant and after enjoying a much longer than intended break (I was lucky enough to have some savings to live off), which lasted 27 months, I re-joined my previous company in November 2019. However, in July 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent oil price crash, I was again made redundant. This time around the savings safety net wasn’t there and with a mortgage and bills to pay it was time for a total rethink about my life.

By now I had had my fill of the oil industry and was ready for a new chapter. At 55 years old I had already been looking at alternatives to the boom and bust lifestyle I had been living for almost 40 years. I wanted a complete change and e-commerce, affiliate marketing, etc, etc, always intrigued me so something along those lines seemed to be the best fit for me. But where and how to start? After many hours researching online, I decided that WA was the team for me. And here I am, embarking on a new adventure in an online world.

Welcome to WA the building block of the internet. Everything starts here as the body of support as you grow. You may venture away but don't waste money on frivolous programs, stick with the training until you have full confidence in your own abilities

Enjoy the journey. The waves are no where near as big as the North Sea and the low spots not near as cold.

best wishes

Hi Michael,
Thank you very much for following me back, greatly appreciated.
Yes, the oil industry isn't what it once was so it time to find something else.
And this is definitely something else! I'm like a duck out of water but slowly trying to follow and apply the training.
I love your John Ruskin quote, so true. I think the key is to believe in ourselves, no matter what anyone else says.
All the best,
Rab

Hi Rab
Thanks for the follow. I am also following you. You have an interesting bio. It is interesting living and working in boom-bust environments, I think you learn a lot but you often pay a lot for it as well. Good luck here at WA and with your online business and I look forward to interacting with you in the community.
Best regards
Andy

Yeah, the boom & bust life can be very deflating. I goes against everything they tell us here; 'consistency is key' 🙂
All the best with your online efforts.

Welcome to WA and thanks for the follow. I have followed back. I have a similar background to you. I know how nice it is to have a paycheck, but I also know it is not an easy life. WA will work, but it does take time. I am happy here and I am learning new things every day.

I hope you enjoy being a part of WA and I wish you great success.

No worries, Rab,

I felt the same way when I started. Just follow through and then review as needed. It does take time, but enough people are making it work to know the system will pay off in the long run.

My feeling is that there is nothing in the patch at present and this keeps me busy and if I make my websites about things I like then I enjoy it.

Good luck.

Alex
