In The Center Of Solar Eclipse
My home on Lake Barkley in western Kentucky is about 10-15 miles from the exact center of the American eclipse. Our small communities barely reach 7000 people on a good day. Since thousands are expected to begin arriving today, much preparation has been made by local authorities. Medical alerts have been issued, all police officers in the area have been placed on high alert. No public official gets a day off, and traffic is expected to be horrendous.
We are not equipped to handle such an onslaught. Our roads in the immediate area are narrow and see very little traffic on a daily basis. Grocery stores will have a hard time keeping their shelves stocked. Even Wednesday at Walmart in Princeton, Kentucky, there was no bread on the shelves. Every available area for tents and campers have been identified by a joint effort of the small communities involved. However, many areas where campers could park have been roped off with NO TRESPASSING signs posted.
Frankly, I'm going to sit on my back porch and watch it all unfurl with my family. The grand kids are excited, and of course grandfather and grandmother are thrilled that they will be visiting for the weekend. So, one good thing will come from the solar eclipse for mom and me--our family will be together once more.
Blessings to all, and enjoy your weekend--even if the sun doesn't shine for a short period!

You are so right! It will be awesome. Perhaps you get to enjoy the sight without all the mess. Blessings.
Very cool. If that were me, though, I think I would be driving far far away to get away from all the people. Glad you are looking forward to it. Hope you enjoy the weekend.
Believe me, I really tried! I wanted to watch the eclipse from Memphis, TN. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for sharing. Have a great time.
It was awesome. My grandsons couldn't believe it. They were totally taken by the event. We saw the diamond ring before and after. I said in my blog that it would last 1.39 mins. It actually lasted 2.40 mins. One cool thing that occured was the mini-eclipse that showed underneath the trees. Over all, it was one tremendous experience. Thanks.
