Great question and great answers

Great question, since they give permission, you should be fine,
snapshot it, just in case.

Thank you. I will go back and have another look. When I click on the link they said I can use the photos but will double check and keep snapshots if I do use them.

Helen

yeah, do that, I heard they will no go after you unless you make it big.

Jukkah makes some good points, Helen, but you could try and check to see if these pictures are now in the public domain!

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I will have another look.

Helen

I hope they work out for you, Helen! Enjoy your weekend!

Jeff

Thanks.

You're very welcome, Helen!

You can use the Wikipedia pictures if they indeed give permission with credit. Just make sure you link to the pictures correctly and contact the owner if you are unsure. Sometimes this is of course not possible. I'm not sure if pictures from 1940s actually lose their copyright at some point, so I'm not going to speculate.

A good rule is that if you are unsure how, don't use them. There are automated software that look for copyright infringements and you can get sued for using a picture without permission. Not worth the risk ever.

In my books it's better to write an article without pictures if I have to but fortunately you can get pretty creative with the free stockphotos. If you have the cash Shutterstock and other paid services have pretty much anything you can imagine in their inventory.

Thank you for your advice.

I am from the UK. Should I be using British spelling on my website or the spelling from Wealthy Affiliate as we spell some words differently.

Can I add words to the Weal

Write to your target audience, it's as simple as that.Your WA spellcheck should be in British as mine is in US.

SiteContents spell checker is only International English, it can’t be changed to UK English or even to Spanish or French etc.

Chrystopher thank you for making me aware of this.

Joe

Thank you everyone for your help. That is really appreciated. I think I have used British spellings in my previous posts so will keep using the British spelling.

As Chrystopher said, use the spelling that suits your target audience. If it's British, then stick to that. If It's the USA then use their spelling.
All the best. Jim

Thank you Jim.

Because my websites are mainly targetting the UK I will stick to the British spelling of the words. I also use UK English here on my WA Blog Posts and only had one member email me saying that I keep using "S" instead of "Z", so I politely let them know I was from the UK and they apologised as they didn't know we had a different spelling. However, if I wanted my website to be global or to target the US, then yes, I would have to use International English in order to be ranked in the search engines in those countries, otherwise my website would only appear on the UK version on Google. Similar to using .co.uk vs .com domain name names. You need to think where your audience is from. Using UK English won't stop you from appearing in US Google searches, but using International English will help you rank higher in US Google searches.

Thanks, that's good to know.

As Canadian we have different spellings than the US. What I find odd is that WA spelling is American spelling yet WA is a Canadian site.
I believe it will matter more to the reader, some readers are really picky. If you spell the words from where you are from you should be safe because they would be spelled correctly. Some may say spell it according to the audience you are speaking to which is the whole world so you will never get it right for everyone. That's the way I see it.
As for adding it to the word speller I never found a way to do that my self.

Thanks. I will think about that before I publish my article.

where is your main market
i am also from the UK, but am having ot Americanize most of my words
can you add to the wa dictionary - no
does it remember - no
it is based on its main market - America....
you could try grammerly if you want the UK version of hte language...
good luck

Helen,

So if assume that your passion is about "1940s Vintage Swing Dresses" this is a topic you know a lot about and love, can talk and comment passionately about and can think of different articles to write on the subject for others to read. This is your starting point, are you choosing the right niche for yourself?

I believe it's a case of sharing your knowledge, getting into that writing zone and watch the fingers go. Your niche is very specific and could have product reviews of certain featured dresses, including where they were made, sizes produced, price at the time, price now, material used, anyone famous who wore them, have they been used in movies or TV shows and maybe online sources where to get them.

You could write content about 1940s Vintage Swing Events or Clubs, dance parties and fancy dress angles. You could do articles on the manufacturers or the designers, where they are or were sold, create posts on the shops at the time. Absolutely anything that would go, match or fit under on a website dedicated to your niche. You really could be an authority on it as it's a new one to me.

I agree that you could get creative, broaden your field to matching shoes and other accessories that tie in with your niche but if your website is called "1940s vintage swing dresses" then you've slightly built a rod for your back in my opinion. I personally don't think it's too much of an issue as the dresses side of things can be the main focus with the side lines of other topics within the niche.

In regards to search terms you'll posts and creations will have keywords attached that people will or maybe search for, think like them. These keywords for your articles may not always specify "vintage swing" and you may find that keywords like "1940s dance," "Vintage Dresses," "period clothing" and "dancewear" could all still make valid keyword ideas, depending on their stats and numbers.

You can write articles on anything you want to and although the templates are a guide they aren't the bible, as Kyle once told advised me. I can waffle and write for England so once I'm in the zone, writing about things I'm passionate about it just flows. Some people find it harder to write and if this is the case aim towards the template and as the training states if you go over then that's fine. Finish and complete when you feel the post is finished.

I hope this is some insight to your queries and how I work on my site. If you get stuck, want to bounce ideas around or just chat if you're feeling a blank canvas coming on (we've all been there) contact me.

Thank you for your further suggestions. I was struggling to get enough relevant information to put the content into my own words.

Maybe, I am just worrying too much.

I am part of a dance community (modern jive) so don't want to look a jerk when I let my dance friends see my website if it isn't right.

You are very kind with your offer though, thanks.

I really appreciate all the feedback.

Helen

Helen,

When I am crusading to write my next article I make use of the template given by Kyle in SITE Content that shows an introduction, a topic1 heading and content, topic2 heading and content and so on up to a conclusion section.

I suggest to research and plan what your new article will be about, then break it down to what you want to write about into these sections given template sections. It's useful as a guide to writing and keeping sections apart. You will find your own way, I guarantee it.

HI 2 you Helen,

I'll have a pop and offer you my opinions and suggestions, see if anything helps you out. I'll start with my thoughts and methods with Jaaxy.

Firstly I hope you haven't fell into the same trap as me when I started out thinking that "keyword" meant just one word, it doesn't it's a word or phrase that someone could type out when searching for something they're interested in. For us as affiliate marketers trying to drive traffic we want the maximum we can get from a search criteria.

Personally for me I aim for SEO = 95 or higher. Depending on if I have a great keyword that is so matching, I may drop to 94, 93 or 92 but I certainly don't go for anything below that. That's my starting point. According to the training from Kyle the QSR needs to be below 100 to get a shout. In another training module titled "Low Hanging Fruit" it explains to really try go for these low QSR keywords, so generally here go for as low as you can, but everything else about the keyword needs to be right too.

I then next look at the AVG Searches per month and the traffic amount if I get first page rankings, obviously I want these to be high too if possible and at this point it's a juggling trick trying to get all the above and more importantly the keyword has to read grammatically correct.

I keep saving in a Jaaxy list all the possibilities to use then when I've run out of research steam I go over what I've saved, fine tuning which one would be best go for in the current post I'm creating.

Thank you for your reply. I have made 2 saved lists already and saved anything for over 40 average traffic but under 100 QSR that makes sense with several keywords. So your advice really helps with looking at the SEO as well.

I will go back over my saved lists and now look at the SEO.

I will also go with Diane's suggestions and see what I can come up with.

Thank you so much for your help.

Helen

Hi - as you have discovered, perhaps your niche is too narrow. You need a subject that has enough topics to cover adding 2 or 3 posts every week for the foreseeable future.

As an idea, you could either expand it to that particular era, covering all clothing and accessories etc from the 40s, or go with vintage dresses but from different decades.

Thank you Diane. That is really helpful.
