I have written 3 articles on various Fashion Designers who were around in the 1940 for my website.

Great question and great answers

Great question, since they give permission, you should be fine,
snapshot it, just in case.

Thank you. I will go back and have another look. When I click on the link they said I can use the photos but will double check and keep snapshots if I do use them.

Helen

yeah, do that, I heard they will no go after you unless you make it big.

Jukkah makes some good points, Helen, but you could try and check to see if these pictures are now in the public domain!

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I will have another look.

Helen

I hope they work out for you, Helen! Enjoy your weekend!

Jeff

Thanks.

You're very welcome, Helen!

You can use the Wikipedia pictures if they indeed give permission with credit. Just make sure you link to the pictures correctly and contact the owner if you are unsure. Sometimes this is of course not possible. I'm not sure if pictures from 1940s actually lose their copyright at some point, so I'm not going to speculate.

A good rule is that if you are unsure how, don't use them. There are automated software that look for copyright infringements and you can get sued for using a picture without permission. Not worth the risk ever.

In my books it's better to write an article without pictures if I have to but fortunately you can get pretty creative with the free stockphotos. If you have the cash Shutterstock and other paid services have pretty much anything you can imagine in their inventory.

Thank you for your advice.
