Is Working Online "Dodgy" ?
Well I've just read Tim's post about the fact he's taken "work" on holiday with him and it got me thinking.
I've been hanging around the Internet lol for years now. Tried every system and training known to man. However......most of my family have no idea what I've been doing all this time. My mum, dad, brother, sister in law, have an inkling but it's been going on for so long now, I don't discuss it with them. Now I come from a loving and supportive family but they are all "grafters" a term we use in England ( and elsewhere probably). They believe that hard physical work is the best way to earn a living. They've never said as much but to them anything online is a bit "dodgy" or at best "not a real" job. I don't love them any less for it of course but that is exactly why I don't talk about it. As for me giving my job up to persue this.....
My hubby is actually with me all the way. He's even building his own photography website and our son is really proud of us both.
Saying nothing to friends and family can sometimes be the best way to go in the beginning. Even well meaning people can drag you down. They don't want to see you "fail" so they think they are protecting you from that by trying to persuade you from taking your venture further. Of course there are also those who out an out say it's rubbish, that you will never earn a dime from this.....they are actually the ones who envy your courage and determination to change your life.....
So then folks. Do you talk about what you are doing here at WA with your friends and family?....or is it a closely guarded secret to protect yourself from the naysayers? :)

Hi Hippychick, i tell people about what i am learning here at WA i also get negative feedback to which i don't take on board this is what you have to learn "DON'T TAKE ON NEGATIVE PEOPLE" just walk away from them or change the subject if family or friends just keep a positive mind and you will go a long way lozza1234
Oh, any negativity is fine by me. It used to bother me but now I realise I will be having the last laugh :)
Well, I thought it was pretty 'hush hush' until my presence started popping up in various searches.....lol....now the fun begins.....haha....but for the most part I assure them I have NOT 'lost it' and that if they truly wanted to be 'helpful' they could help get the word out.....
"hush, hush" lol.....now we DO sound dodgy. That must be good feeling to pop up in searches. I'm looking forward to that :)
Why not tell everyone? It's justified when you say you have 2 billion possible customers :-)
I used to be shy and retiring. Now I talk too much... In allowing myself to be eccentric, I have been verbally promoting the wonders of WA. Is it working? For those who have taken it up, yes. Others might need more convincing. Larry
Good for you, for being true to yourself. Eccentric is good......and Sadie is absolutely gorgeous. She must start loads of concentrations:)
Good post, hard one...I can relate to the keeping it quite until confidence and results are there to show if someone happens to enquire. Generally it is that those that are critical are usually the first to be there when there is something in it for them...so better they don't know from the start I guess? Doesn't do morale any good either to be dragged for trying. All the best:)
I would have to agree with the latter. That I stay mum to protect myself from the naysayers.. It's new to me. As I gain knowledge and confidence I will also speak out more as well. Thank you for the good article. Very relevant! :)
Thanks for your support:) In the early days, I would be mortified if anyone either found out what I was doing....and felt even worse if they criticised me. Not any more because I have absolute faith in what I'm doing.
I discuss it with my sister and my Mom simply because they keep asking me what's taking me so long to make a living. I don't see many of my friends any more. Some are or would be or used to be pretty negative. A couple of them have down played any effort I've made toward making what I call an alternative career choice, but their answer is to live of Social Security. Others simply, even now, don't take the time to learn any more about the computer than absolutely necessary. Most realize I had no other choice but to quit my job to stay home to help out, but still think my pursuit of an online business is silly. Whatever. I gotta do what I gotta do.
Hi Broderick. Like George says..."good for You" for having the courage to take responsiblilty for your life. I have absolute respect for anyone who has no alternative but to live off social security......and absolutely no respect for those who make it their career choice.....

All my family know I'm 'On The Internet' and they don't bother about it one way or the other.
My two daughters say the usual when I'm up to something - way to go dad but mind you don't lose our inheritance lol.

lol, yes I think once we start to earn money from our efforts, then people realise it might actually work. They don't understand that we need to lay the foundations first...:)
