My website will feature affordable art for the home - which includes wall art, as well as other decorative art. So many names are taken. I came up with PoppiesInRed.com with the he

Lori,

While I like the name, I think it may be a bit confusing to people. You see, the Red Poppie is the symbol for remembering Veterans. It has become associated by most with Veteran's Day ceremonies and sales of Red Poppies to help Disabled Veterans.

That's just my humble opinion. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the follow, following in return.

You know, that's something I had forgotten and not even made the connection with. It would be a great name for a blog about veterans of the wars we have been involved in. hmmm. Food for thought! Thank you for your insights. -Lori

Thank you for your insight based on your personal experience. I really appreciate your motivation to help in posting it!

It is really important to remind your self of theses important facts

Fact 1 - When people visit your website, they will really not care a dam what your website is called, they will however care about you content and if your content helps them they will come back again

Fact 2 - If you produce a constant flow of good relevant content you will be rewarded higher rankings on Google

Fact 3 - Google does not rank websites due to what the website is called, they rank websites on how may people come to and stay on your site

Call it what ever you want to call it, but don't fall into the trap, that what you call your site or what your logo looks like will produce a profitable online business, because it will not

Here is a real life example - Many people buy magazines and some magazines make millions of dollars, now ask your self this question
Do people buy magazines because of what the magazine is called or do they buy them for the content in them

You see there is your answer - Focus on what people in your niche want and deliver it to them and no one but you will care about the site title or site name

You website is your magazine and people buy magazines for the content not the logos or titles

To produce an successful online business, there are two groups of people we must impress

1. Your readers
2. Google

Both of these groups want only one thing, yep you guessed it CONTENT

All understood. However, I think name (brand) does matter. For instance- women first took a look at the magazine "Vogue" because the word means something. If it had been called "Fashionable, Expensive Clothing", I'm pretty sure many would not have glanced past the cover/name.

Of course, as you mention, that name get's you only a page deep if you don't deliver the goods.

Thank you for your input! All comments are appreciated!

Personally and this is a matter of opinion, but I find that when it comes to domain names, it is more important to go with a name that you can brand, as opposed to trying to "force" a keyword heavy domain. I have made the mistake in the past and honestly, the SEO benefits are nowhere near as powerful as they used to be. Obviously, if you have a homerun domain in your niche that is easy to remember, easy to brand AND keyword rich, go for it. Otherwise, I have found that giving people a name that they can remember is a powerful tool, too.

For example, I run a site that centers around providing information, tips, tools and resources for those struggling with ADD/ADHD, as well as improving overall cognitive function and brain health for everyone. The site is called, 'Focus Here and Now' and I can't tell you how many times I have seen people specifically searching for the business name in my GA data. All the best to you!

Thanks for the insight! Good to hear differing viewpoints. It helps!

No prob! I find it interesting, too. While, I completely agree that the name of your website won't mean a damn if your content sucks, I also think that many people overlook the benefits of having a brandable name and automatically chase long, forgettable, ugly "keyword rich" domain names that don't serve anywhere near the same SEO benefits that they may have 5 years ago.

It is certainly not something that will make or break your business either way, but having a brandable name to go with great content can help you in many ways, including authority and actually, if you play your cards right and make sure to refer to your brand and your company's name in the right spots, you can be rewarded in rankings, too.

I think your brand is important to a degree, and your domain name is still technically the foundation upon which your online brand will be built. Your domain name is how users will find, remember, share and identify you. In social media and search engines, the domain name is the primary way by which users can identify where the link will lead.

Google likes brands and a direct quote from the CEO was as follows, “Brands are the solution, not the problem. Brands are how you sort out the cesspool. Brand affinity is clearly hard-wired. It is so fundamental to human existence that it’s not going away.”

While again, I don't think it is something that you should spend days on and overthink it too much, I do think there is some importance in being memorable, relevant to your niche, easy to spell if you are remembered, authoritative, and unique. Plus, you sound less spammy.

Overall, the number one priority should always be your content and the quality that you providing to your readers, but I wouldn't say that a business name or domain name is completely irrelevant either. It's all about how you use it. At the end of the day, if you are putting everything into your business and your site, you will be attaching that name to literally everything you do. You want to be proud of it and establish yourself as that authority. At the end of the day, I think a catchy, memorable and authoritative name is going to get you much further than how-to-make-money-online-at-your-home-internet-marketing-business.com, lol! You get the point. All the best!

Think about this. These are some of the most popular websites on the internet. Anyone who says "Google" (think about that for a second) doesnt like brands is crazy. You definitely don't overthink this to the point that you don't take action on actually creating content and again, your content is absolutely MORE important, but a name matter and a brand matters. Case in point...

Thank you, and all very well said! I have the same thoughts on the subject, which I believe is born out by your examples.

I think a unique name is a great idea. Most people will find you site through your content, not your domain name.

Agreed. As Barry pointed out above, it's content, content, content that gets the results! Thank you

Personally i think it is a great name and headline. I say, "Go for it!"

Great Success to you
