So I Make Diffuser Flowers and Why I Dodged A Bullet Yesterday
I am struggling with sales. I have a beautiful brand new studio and decided that my business needed to take a different track. Whilst selling at fairs, markets and festivals and doing the occasional popup at Bluewater has been very instructional this isnt the way I wanted to sell my products. I want to sell to shops and more wholesale.... So the trawl around various earmarked suitable shops started.... oh boy was that demoralising. But Im not stopping.
A few weeks ago I saw an ad on instagram for The Big Event company - Adam Stott - It was about how to scale your business having the inside story of social media and becoming one of the 1% that crack it. Well as Im not from the modern era and didnt grow up with social media, I thought it was for me. Paid £27 for the lunch and the info book. Went along....
It wasnt at all about how to scale your social media... it was a event for Big Events to demoralise you further being told what you were doing wrong and the only way to do it right was with them. Upsell central. The minute I realised was the minute I should have got up and left. However the orator, Ross - have to admit he is good at what he does - offers are few snippets of what seems like good advice, to keep you listening. However after a lunch of 3/4 of a tuna sandwich and 5 crisps and a glass of water, I was less impressed. Decided that the £1200 price for the upsell was steep and rang my son at JSU in Alabama ( my very sensible tennis son) and talked to him about it. He was in the coach on the way to a meet in South Carolina so the call kept dropping in and out but we managed and he pointed out to me what the goals for this year for my business are.... I set them with him.... and that £1200 is a lot of advertising budget to lose. and a fee for a bi business wholesale fair in the fall. I just needed that boost of insight to reset my boundaries. Bullet dodged.
So today I am going to get back on track, stop feeling sorry for myself, who said small business was easy... ok... got an old shed to empty and a new studio to fill. I will continue down my path.

Dear Helen, I totally understand your feelings.
I have a small fabrics brand which was going really well in the last decade, and now I am restarting everything from scratch.
Selling online today is really different compared even to three years ago!
What I can suggest you is
- to open an IG account and create a content calendar for it
- try to go live on ig, people buys your values more than your products
- mix organic + paid traffic (ig+fb campaigns)
Just focus on this, you will see some improvements.
Try to master ONE social, the ones you love the most!
thankyou so much for that... More help than yesterday ! My new studio means I have more opportunity to take better short videos of things I do and perfect for showcasing stuff.
yes Helen, my only strategy for now is to improve my instagram + paid campaigns
better to work on one thing at time!
