The Last Lecture
I have just read the last lecture by Randy Pausch, inspiring read about achieving our childhood dreams. If you have not read it or don't know his story I recommend it but have tissues to hand.
This is the quote I take away from it to have in my back pocket.
"Be good at something; It makes you valuable ... Have something to bring to the table, because that will make you more welcome."
Meaning For Us
This is telling us to think about excellence and value and surely those are the two most important elements required of all those who seek to ply the trade that we lean here?
We need to master the mechanisms and deliver what our audience is looking for.

Hamish, while I was in grad school we had to read that book. Randy died from the same thing that my husband died from almost four years ago. His ideas from “The Last Lecture” stemmed from drafting it out on a napkin sketch. This was an English class. We had to learn how to do a project idea from a napkin sketch. I must admit that I found it hard to do. Interesting class. There also is a video of his talks as well. We watched that. Randy’s whole point was not about how one can achieve their dreams but how to live one’s life. He was basically telling us chasing a dream isn't all fine and dandy, especially if you miss out on enjoying life, life has it pauses and is meant to be enjoyed by focusing on the right path. With him having said that, he believed that karma will take care of it, dreams can come to you but don’t miss out on the true meaning of life. That must have hit home to him when he realized he would not be there to see his children grow up and having their own children. He did miss out because he was always so focused on his work. That book is a good one to think about. I still have it somewhere collecting dust on my bookshelves.

I LOVED New Zealand! I was there in 1983 and drove for 3 weeks in North Island. Fabulous! The Maori's, the lakes, the sheep, all of it, I miss and keep it stored in my mind. One day I will return. You have a wonderful place to live. I spent 3 months down under and loved every minute! I went to Tasmania, Australia, Fiji's, and back home to SF. It was a work trip and pleasure trip. Of course my dad didn't think so, I spent $30K back then. Well, I got a trip of my lifetime. My husband only like his business's and his remote and 75" TV. Me, I love people. I love culture. I'm happy to meet you.

I am very fortunate to have achieved my childhood dream and I became a Singer-Songwriter/Entertainer for over 25 years and loved that life.

and to be fair I have been doing the same in my world where on May the 6th this year I celebrated a 45 year career that that has been the most wonderful adventure.
