Ever since i moved into my present neighborhood of Norristown, PA a couple years ago, I've been walking by The Little Brown Jug with my dog Cooper, on our daily walks. The Little Brown Jug is a local bar that has been closed and padlocked since I moved here. I hear tell from neighbors that it was a very friendly neighborhood tavern. Which kind of makes me sad, because, although I don't drink very often, it would have been nice to have a little watering hole within walking distance where I could go to get out of the house without having to take the car where I could grab a beer and some chicken wings or a burger off the grill.

So, now - two years have passed. And every time I walk by this place, I still wondered when they might reopen.

Well, the answer finally came a few days ago. This time, I walked by, I noticed the padlock was off the door and there was a man inside with an electric table saw, hard at work. Another fellow was bringing supplies in from his car and there was a ladder outside the building, leaning against the roof. I stopped and asked one of the gentleman what was going on. He told me they were fixing it up to reopen the place.

I said, "Great! I was wondering when someone was going to buy this place and reopen it. I live right down the street and it would be nice to have a bar close by for a beer and a sandwich every now and then."

He looked at me forlornly, shook his head and replied, "Oh, it's not gonna be a bar."

"Oh!" I exclaimed, just a tad perplexed... ""What is it going to be?", I asked.

"A church" he replied.

Just then his partner chimed in, "We're just servin' up a different kind of spirit, that's all!"

I guess we're all spiritual in one way or another.

Here at WA, we have team spirit... CHEERS!

Sorry to hear that your dream of having a bar close by will not be fulfilled. But you never know if one day your spirit gets thirsty and you will pay them a visit.

Have a great weekend, Taetske

I pass four churches along the way during my walks where I could easily stop in to get a refilli for my spirit.

I'd prefer a bar at this particular location. I recall something about turning water into wine?

Make mine a Pinot Noir... for medicinal purposes only, of course.

Thank you for sharing this story, Hal :)

now there's a church on every corner---how many people still need savin?

Boy, would I love to get in to this one... probably get me banned though... LOL!!!

Love it! Thanks for sharing:)

Thank you for loving it... and letting me know.

Thanks for sharing, Hal.

Love the twist... you got me. It is sad to see what was and hopefully it becomes what is but not always. Thanks for the chuckle and a point delivered well. Jay

Haha! Great story Hal, thanks for sharing.

I needed a good laugh :D

One thing I love about Pennsylvania. There is aa great neighborhood tavern to be found most anywhere!

Spirit comes to town in a different way !

I guess some get spirit from the bottle, others get it from the book. :-)
