Resubmit Sitemap Or Organically Crawl? What Should I Do?

As of the writing of this post, I am in the process of re-editing hundreds of blog posts I've written over the past two years, the majority of which have been indexed by Google, but nonetheless have to be redone for SEO purposes...

I want Google to pick up on the changes I've made to these posts as soon as possible.

So here's my question:

After these posts are re-edited do I:

A) Do nothing and let Google crawl them naturally

B) Resubmit a new sitemap at Google Search Console

If there is something else I need to do after I re-edit these posts, something I'm not aware of, please let me know.

My understanding is any posts that I've had to re-edit that were previously indexed by Google will remain indexed, even if I re-edit part of the title.

I hope my understanding is correct...

Looking for some knowledgeable feedback here...

Your input is appreciated,

Thanks,

Howard

Your choice, Howard!

Jeff

Hi Howard

You can certainly resubmit your new sitemap which would be of benefit to you.

Also once got to them instead of waiting for them to come to you.

Once you have made those changes to your posts instead of waiting get them indexed in both Google Search Consul and Bing Webmaster Tools which will save waiting for their bots to come to you.

Wishing your well

Andre

Thanks for your reply, Andre...

Should I wait until I'm completely finished to resubmit the sitemap or do it periodically, like every 50-100 posts re-edited?

Thanks,

Howard

You are welcome Howard

As for sitemaps, It is a good idea to update the sitemap when you have new URLs and also when you change the content of old URLs.

Firstly best as I said earlier once you have made your changes and published them best to get your new posts and even old posts re-indexed with the search engines to get the ball rolling.

That would be the first option to do.

As for Sitemaps

As you have many posts to change obviously your old sitemap needs to change.

As to how many posts you want to wait for I wouldn't wait till I get 50-100 perhaps a bit less than that as Google will visit you anyway with the re-indexing of old posts and submitting for indexing of the new ones.

As to when Google will visit you to read the sitemaps well only Google will know when to visit perhaps earlier due to the reindexing and the indexing of old and new posts as mentioned above.

Depending on how much you have done already and how important you feel the changes are perhaps every 10-15 or so for the sitemap as you can always resubmit sitemaps.

Technically you could resubmit a sitemap each time you create a new post or update any old posts.

But it's always best when making big changes such as the menu structure as well especially if you have been creating more or new categories.

Hopefully, someone with more experience can give a better guide but do it in bulks of 10-15 to keep your sitemap up to date.

As a side note:

You can also write on your old posts you have updated to give a short one-line statement near the top saying "This article has been recently been updated to reflect current times"

No need to put a date when this was done just to let those reading it that you are updating to reflect any current changes.

Just make sure it is actually reflecting current trends or any changes that have been made along with changing any old images.

And don't forget to double-check any links you have and make sure they still work.

For example, if you are promoting WA and have snapshots of the old interface then you would need to change the images to reflect the current interface we have now.

hope that helps

Andre
