I got ranked without even trying!
I am super excited about the latest developments of my website! In short, I got ranked in Google for a page on my website, when I wasn't even trying!
I used Google Analytics to check out my traffic and their sources. I came across a keyword that was used so I typed this into Google and what I found got my affiliate juices flowing - I had the number 5 spot in Google! How awesome is that!?
So I tried to be analytical myself and determine what I did to achieve that. Firstly, there isn't much content on that page so here is all that I can think of:
- Page Title?
- One or two links in my blog?
- Keyword in first paragraph?
- Perhaps the PDF links on the page?

People love free stuff. Check the search volume for "free motivational ebooks", will give you and idea of your rankings. Your page is like a summary/in-depth list for something and that always does well in the search engines.
Thanks 'thighs' :) (lol)... I did check that term out before but it seems that it is not ranking as well as the other (position 28 versus 5). Thanks for the feedback though - it makes sense what you said, about the page being an in-depth list. Although, I do want to re-format it to be easier on the eyes (spacing, size etc.) and obviously add some more ebooks!
I will have to conjure a nickname for you, maybe bossie (like in bush) or something. :) Are those books free versions of paid motivation e-books (with your affiliate links)?
No problem :P The ebooks are free, but only free to members of my affiliate program. Most of them are sold on for profit so yes, you might end up paying for them!
Very, very nice looking site. The dark background, the Dalai Lama quote and the photo and colors in the header for perfect for your topic. Congrats!
Hi kipper30! Thank you very much for the feedback! You have conclusively settled my doubts on the use of colours - I will certainly keep this design, even after changing themes, if I decide to go that route!
Nice work, you should post a screenshot of your actual ranking within your blog post.
I think as time goes on you are really going to see how easy rankings really are to achieve. It is not rocket science and once you get the hang of it, it will happen on demand.
Thanks Kyle! I will certainly remember that - the thought crossed my mind but the idea seemed to drift away! Is there perhaps any way that one can edit a blog post here at WA? I would like to add a screenshot if possible...
Regarding the rankings, there is one thing I'm struggling with though and that is getting my blogs on my website ranked. I have created a few backlinks from my articles but I guess I need to do a lot more for visitors to visit my blogs directly from Google, instead of going to my SA articles, where i need to rely on CTR's...
What a great feeling website, great job. That is all I can tell you. But Jay said the Health and relationship titles are always a hot ticket. I love the quote from Mark Twain.
Have a great day
Kymee
Thanks wtbee2013! I am glad that the site feels good, I was doubting it but good to get some positive feedback! I think the Mark Twain quote was part of the RSS feeds - I did this to try and keep the pages 'fresh'!
Hi lazarusbarse... what I did was to upload the PDF media (the ebook you want to give away) to my wordpress site and also an image that represents the download. Then on the page I add the image and link the image to the PDF to open in a new window. The link is in the image properties. Hope this helps.

I am commenting again because I have to be honest about something. I did like your site but the colors were really off for me. I have inspirational sites and most of the ones I ever checked into are really more colorful. I remembered this that Jay put this up the other day.
The colors to me were just not welcoming.

Now, although this is my opinion only. Please don't take me wrong because I did like the site but not the colors.
Okay? :)
Always okay! :) I recently posted an article about criticism and yours is most welcome! Thanks for sharing Jay's blog post - I had a look and can definitely agree with it. I also understand what you meant about the colours because I myself was a bit apprehensive about them. The intensity may be disturbing for some - I also had to get used to it.
I will probably be looking into a different colour combination, just to be more welcoming in general to most visitors. I've had my thoughts on a particular look and Jay's post made it clearer! Again, that you for your constructive criticism - always appreciated!
Okay, I just wanted to be sure you understood where I was coming from! :)
