The Secret to Sustained Happiness
The misconception...
Most folks think that the secret to happiness is reaching and completing the goal, the end of the process, whatever that may be.
Now, I'm not arguing that we do experience joy and elation in success. But, how long does that last? Minutes? Hours? A few days, if we're really lucky. And, that's a good thing, of course.
But, a by-product of that particular feeling at that time can also be that we might feel that the whole process was a bit anti-climactic. And, then there's "what's next?" I know I've had times where I've felt these things. too.
As such, since none of us usually complete big goals on a daily basis, we might tend to get caught up in the obstacles, road blocks and frustrations of the actual process of completing those goals. Are we happy during those times?
The mindset for SUSTAINABLE happiness
I propose that to experience happiness more often, ultimately for a portion of each day, on a daily basis, that instead of relying on the finished process to lift your soul, set your mind to embracing the journey, each and every moment of it.
Find joy in the steps, exuberance in the leaps, determination climbing out of the pits and accept completely that we're doing what we're doing because it's life.
I'm not saying to hide the anger or hurts or frustrations during that journey - that's not real. Actually, I think true happiness can't be realized without experience the "other side," so to speak. Know what I mean?
Do you think that this is the message that we can take from one of my all-time favorite movies? ;)
Wishing us all the best,
~ Mike
