Finally taking the leap to freedom

That's right gang, I've decided to take the plunge and quit the security of my full time job - and health insurance - and doing digital marketing full time! That's the biggest stress I'm feeling right now is paying for my own insurance. Paying my bills places a close second in stress levels. Go figure. Anyone out there have insurance tips for the self employed?

Thanks for all the support to help me with this decision. I'm really looking forward to see where the new adventure leads me.

What a leap! Quick, build a parachute on your way down!! :)

We have been without insurance for quite a while. Even while I was employed we could not afford it for the whole family (only I was covered through the college). I am starting at a new college, but insurance will not kick in until August, and again it is just for me--hopefully this time we will be able to afford it for the whole family. Basically we just tell our kids they are not allowed to get sick or injured ;-)

I'm hoping you came up with some better options!

Insurance is the wild card for me. I signed up for Moda but ouch, very expensive and that was the cheapest I could find. So much for affordable insurance act. I haven't seen it! Next time I'll look for coverage as a business owner. The problem with that is that spouses can't qualify for some reason. Ugh, our system sucks in the US.

I tried signing up at healthcare.gov and was told that my income was so low that I had to go for the Medicaid option (I was unemployed and self employment was not bringing in much). In the process of applying for Medicaid I was told that because we had money in savings we did not qualify for that option!

Omg. Stupid system! You either have to be completely poor or completely rich.

Congrats.

Best of luck to you. I hope all goes well. Wendy.
