Two Types of IT People

Over the past 20 years of working in IT, I've seen that there are two types of IT people.

The first type is the person who eats, sleeps, and breathes IT. These people love all aspects of IT and are always doing something on their computers, smartphone, gaming system, etc. They enjoy working 8 hours a day with computers at their job and then go home and spend most nights on their home computers or gaming systems.

I've known a number of these people. The first person I knew like this was when I first switched from Engineering to IT. He was at the store at midnight when Windows 95 was released, then again when Windows 98 was released, and then shortly after that is when I left that company to move back home to my home state.

Another person of this type that I worked with for a number of years had multiple computers and gaming systems. He had one computer just for social media, another for online games, another for email and general web surfing, and multiple game systems (Nintendo, Sega, X-Box).

The other type of IT person is the one who does not like being on the computer after an 8 hour day of work. These people would rather do other things that don't involve computers: watching TV, interacting with family and friends, etc. I happen to be one of these people. Now that I'm on Wealthy Affiliate, this doesn't work well because I'm not progressing through the training like I need to. I'm tired of working for others, so I have to work on turning this around and keep in my mind: "Suck it up, Buttercup".

I don't even know what to say, cause I'm still stuck at the phrase "Suck it up Buttercup" hahaha! :)

Yes Dear. ROFL

I'm in your category Keith. I enjoyed it enough for an a-9 hr. day, but after that I had to get a life.

Now that we're trying to change our lifestyle, I really need to re-focus my efforts and get my FILDI on.

I've been in IT for 27 years and, without a doubt, I'm Type 2. The struggle is real!

I hear you, I've been in IT for over 45 years and I fall into the second category. Sometimes though you have no choice but to deal with it. Glad that life is behind me and now I can dedicate 12 to 14 hour days to WA! :)

Thanks for sharing.
A great read indeed :)
Cheers, Tosh.

I am not IT, but I know what you mean about staying off the computer after work. Is that Robert Irvine with you?

Yes, that is Robert with my wife and I. We went to one of his shows recently. We wanted a picture with him for when we have our B&B.

That is really cool.
