About Frenchfries5
Joined September 2016
I'm a pharmacist and mom of 3 kids, empty nester, now, and looking for a less stressed pace to my life. My passions are gardening, music and my family. My husband and I enjoy cooking, DIY, working hard, and playing hard. My husband is also a BBQ pitmaster (and IT) and we have some catering experience. We decided life is too short to not enjoy it or follow your passions. We are selling our house, and are in pursuit of a large Bed and Breakfast to purchase. I started on a website at one point but didn't have enough know-how to finish. I'm excited to be here.

Michelle,
Have you considered becoming an expat?
I know, out of left field, right! But that's the process we're in right now, targeting Costa Rica in the June timeframe. Lots of variables between now and then, of course, but it's the niche for my website, maybe I should say it WILL be the niche, since I have so much more to complete!
Tim
Ask me questions, if the concept is not too extreme for you!

We are, however, looking forward to moving south :) yay!!
I won't miss snow...

How are you doing ?Fine I hope !, I wanted to ask you if it matters
when picking a domain name (registering a domain name) if there are dashes in between each word (out of whats left available on the list to purchase) will it in fact bring less or NO traffic to my site
because of the (-) dashes ? This is stopping me in my tracks right now ! Please help !
Reply
Frenchfries5 Premium
You have to think about how a user would search for you. Of course the most common the domain name the more likely it is to be taken or you will have to pay big bucks for the name. It is possible to perhaps place one dash in the name and not be hurt too bad but if you can do without I think it is more logical. The more characters or the longer your domain is the more difficult it will be to use that domain. I went from my free domain of modernbedandbreakfastinns.com which was killing me to purchasing a premium modernbnb.com
Keep in mind there are many many reasons that there might not be traffic to your site. You can check a few insights, try your webmaster tools and analytics.

I wanted to pick your brain if I could ? I am stuck on creating the
web page & that starts with a domain name & thats where I'm at. However you say that modernbedandbreakfastinns .com was killing you , how ? costing alot or traffic wise ? I 'm just trying to get any insight to at least trying to get this next step to the process (I am at a loss right now), so I 'm looking for something
and have tryed to research it ! There was a site for domains that
I forget the name ! I 'm very sorry that I'm venting to you I am a little frustrated I can't grasp this !!! So I guess I'm digging for anything right now !! Thanks Fmindset1 head is spinning !!!! HA HA!!

I'm trying to think of how best to answer your question! When you are trying to come up with a domain name you will want a name that 1) represents your niche well and 2) is something that would be intuitive to a user. Oh and unfortunately not all the best names are available because you have these squatters that buy up domain names that are the best and sit on them and will sell them for a few grand. Lets say gardening is your niche. You will probably never get garden.com because thats taken for sure. So you need to come up with variations of what you will do with gardening. It doesn't matter if you are staying on siterubix for awhile but it will matter once you move your site. Going back to gardening - maybe you want to focus on shade gardening, so your domain may be shadygarden.com now lets say that's taken, try myshadygarden.com or like my brother used him and his wife's initials mc as part of their domain name. With the garden example you could use mcshadygarden.com
The reason I got frustrated with my domain was in part it was very long, but I could have lived with it, I paid quite a bit for the premium domain of modernbnb - which is very searchable, but not everyone is going to want to spend that much money - and I'm questioning the wisdom of my decision at times - ah water under the bridge.
Let me know if that helps at all. Or share some more details with me and maybe I can give you some additional ideas.

Hello and yes your information helps me a great deal I have decided to not so much let off the gas pedal but I think I am literally over thinking or forcing my thought process to go faster than it is capable right now because I thought once I started the ideas would come fast & furious but they are not !? I mean I have
a niche that I think is a good one , I am no expert , what do you think about( ease back pain (and the .net is still available) ), I am thinking about purchasing it. I just don't want to waste time but I
can't afford to make a mistake either ,I am trying to decide this, this weekend or ASAP what I should do ? Again I am thankful for
your time, Thank you Fmindset1

Sounds like you are giving it a lot of thought - that's great. I would encourage you to think long and hard before committing to .net. That was originally for ISPs and not really for something like we do. I know it is frustrating. My husband had to change is BBQ domain after we had our competition t-shirts made. Think about whether visitors would actually look for a .net or another variation of .com.
Hang in there :)

Your goals sound awesome! I'm a physical therapist looking for the same thing, slowing down life, kids are almost out of the house! My sister and her husband are moving back to Alaska to potentially start a B&B up there near his home town of Palmer. I resinate with where you and your husbands dreams are leading. I've just started so I have a ways to go, but I'm on the path and nothing will deter me. It looks to me as you've made some serious progress toward your goals! It is good to meet you Michelle, see you around the WA community!

We are finally finalizing the purchase of our cabin lodging property in Eureka Springs, AR (Tall Pines Inn) We move there Feb 1. Very excited. It has 14 cabins, 21 units. It will be an undertaking but we have both left our careers to pursuing our dream. Our kids were a bit stunned at first but they are on board now :)
Happy New Year to you and best in all you do!

Hi, Michelle...

Thanks for the follow and I have done the same...It appears that you are at a very good point in your life and this online marketing will work out well for you.

I remember very well the palpable relief as I took the time to realize that being an "empty nester" was really a cool thing...That opened the door to ALL kinds of possibilities...

It appears it has for you too, and I congratulate you on achieving this state of affairs hehe...So I wish you and your husband the best both here and with the rest of what is to come for you both!

Love your handle here BTW...Frenchfries5 is a name I never would have come up with, but should have!

Cheers!

Haha... had several ask where I came up with that name. My dad's parents were French, so I got that 1/2 :) Our last name is Frey and we have 5 in our family.
We are at a transition point, I'd say. Switching gears to pursue what we love - we are hung up on this house sale for the past year - UGH. Finding out no one wants a 5000 sq ft 1965 home :(

Huh?? you are working on your website already on the first day? Wow, I joined just 2 days before you, but I am nowhere ready to put up a site, select a niche, etc. Congratulations on your fast start. You might find your online business to be profitable enough to support you without the extra work of a B&B... if money is what you want.

Good luck to you in WA. I think you will do very well, because you DO stuff.

Hi again Michelle it’s a good idea (only if you want to) to click the 'Like' icon within a comment if you like it as I have done with yours.
Obviously you don't have to click every single comment or you will be here all day doing nothing but.
But to click the ones you like that are replies to your own comments will be reflected in your WA ranking because it shows you are getting involved with the community.
Enjoy your day.

P.S. If you get a chance check out how the training helped me to build my websites. My latest one on how to boost your retirement income just went live a month ago and the one on sleep apnea has been up for almost four months now. You can find the links on my profile page. I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

I did send one message to you about shopmytoolshed concept and where I was stuck. It would be for the sell and buy of new and used tools, ie. what poshmark does with womens clothing. At this point my greatest interest is bed and breakfast Inns - where to stay/price. I would appreciate your take on those. Thank you.

Sure, you could head in the direction of B&B, but where? Trying to target the world would be impossible without a huge team of writers, I would start narrow and then diversify as you build success within one region. Start small, then diversify. ;)
