Do you need some effective advertising tips? Perhaps this post can provide some good suggestions. After all, it is vital that our website have an audience, or what good does it do us?

So, how do you create effective advertising? Here's an example: Do you remember this jingle?

Brush your teeth with Colgate, Colgate dental cream.

It cleans your breath (what a toothpaste) while it cleans your teeth.

I remember that jingle from many years ago, having heard it repeated many, many times. It's catchy and covers the most important information about the product. What is more notable: It has been around for a long, long time, and still works to provide the company's message.

If you can produce something as memorable as this jingle, you will send your message to a wide audience.

What Is Advertising?

With advertising, you create and display messages that definitely catch people's attention, and can provide and motivate your website visitors to take action.

You are in the right place, having an online site. Since as many as four billion people from around the world use the internet, you have enough of an audience out there that can be reached online.

Where Do You Start?

To start an advertising campaign, you must first come up with the idea you want to use as your focus. To come up with this idea, you need to gather some information. First, what are your goals? Do you want to advertise to increase sales, or do you want to drive traffic to your site?

Then, define your audience. Figure out who is most likely to purchase what you have to offer. Where do these people gather? With this information, you can target the people most likely to visit your site with interest.

Perhaps you don't have much money to put into ads. Thus, for starters, here are some inexpensive or free ways to put your message out there. Try these suggestions:

1) Check online directories and add your business if it is not there. Make sure to claim your business's listing if it appears on Yelp, and make sure the information is correct and recent. If you have not joined Yelp, do so. Look for others you don't use that may be related to your niche.

2) Is your Google business listing up to date? People may well find you through Google, as that may be the first place they look. Is the information complete? If not, add to it.

3) Find discussions or forums related to your business. If you find some good ones, get involved. Answer questions and share what you know. As forum threads often remain searchable for years, one post could generate passive income for a long time.

4) Start an email newsletter. Your email list is a very valuable tool. A newsletter is a great way to keep these folks in the loop.

5) Do a guest blog. By doing so, you enlarge your reputation and get folks aware of who you are.

6) If you have good customers, ask them for referrals. When a friend recommends your site, you have utilized the most credible form of advertising. People may not think to make a recommendation on their own, but if you ask, they are more apt to remember to do so.

7) Answer questions on Quora, as it is a site where people turn for answers. By giving good answers and then providing a link to an article on your site, you can gain more visitors.

8) Be active in social media. As social media networks remain a common place where people learn about businesses, do not ignore this venue. Be active on the site or sites you choose.

Use whatever means at your disposal to get your name out there. Yes, you can use paid advertising, but be sure you try all the free means to get the word out. Paid advertising is expensive, so try to add in as many free ways to gain visitors as possible.

What an informative post. I am waiting for yelp to verify my site and Google listing will be sending a postcard to finalize my listing. I already answer questions on Quora I just didn't see the value till your post. I am very green social media-wise so that will be my next exploration.
