I need a hand

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to ask for help but anyway here goes,

My website is a little over 3 years old, it's in the health wellness niche, traffic is growing steadily as is the income. Traffic 3,000 unique per month, affiliate income is steady around $900 average per month, expenses just WA, Jaxxy, WordPress, Yoast, sometimes pay people to write. I have about 300 posts in total, so all good to this point.
I had the site valued on a few different websites Flippa, Empire Flippers, the values range from $13,000 up to $30,000a huge difference I know.

My problem is that my wife and I are in our 60's our kids (adults) have finally left the house, so we got to thinking it's about time we wrote our wills, that in itself isn't a problem however it started me thinking about "what if I die before her" the last thing I would want is to leave the selling of an online business to her, i think it could be a nightmare for her.

While I enjoy building the site and watch it grow the day will inevitably come when a decision will have to be made on this monetary asset, do I sell now to avoid any hassle for her further down the line?

If so does anyone have any advice on where to sell my website? Has anyone sold an online business before, ? Can WA help?

On the other hand do I keep building the site and increasing its value, ? I keep having this nagging feeling that if something were to happen to me a lot of difficulties would arise for my wife as she would inherit all my assets.

If this were to happen is there someone out there that could take care of the sale so that it wouldn't place a burden on her?

I really want to sell the site, what would you advise?
Thanks in advance

I would say try to list it and see what you could get! I believe you may or may not be surprised.! It might cost you a little, but it would be worth knowing what you can get, and in the end, it is YOUR decision to sell or not!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,
I'm asking for a bit of advice, I've sale agreed my health and wellness website on Flippa so I'm wondering what us the best and cheapest way to close the deal.
Any advice is appreciated
Fintan

Fintan, they have their own way of doing things. My sale never happened, so I have no true knowledge on that aspect, except to day, do not close the deal or take a deal away from Flippa!

Jeff

She is a lucky lady.
I've been thinking about this also, so I'm glad that you bought it up.
You could leave instructions for your wife on how to sell it. Maybe she would like that better as the income could be useful if you were to go first.

You could do the research into where she can sell it and leave details or you may find that when you discuss it she says that she would want to run it. Ask your wife I think first.

Warm regards,
Lily

Hi Lily,
Thank you, I have spoken to Julie, she has no interest whatsoever in the business, I have looked at what needs to be done to prepare a website for sale, to be honest it's quite daunting if you don't have a clue about how a website business actually works.
So, I would prefer not to put her in the situation where she has to gather all of the information to sell the business.
I know where I could sell it, but what if I want to keep going and working on it and God forbid something happens to me I just feel that it would be too much of a burden on her.
It would be great if there was someone out there that could just take care of everything in the event that something unexpected happened.
Any further thoughts?
Regards,
Fintan

I've contacted Kyle for some more information and will be back after I hear from him.
I have an idea but I want to work it through first.

Lily 😁🎶

Thanks Lily.

Hi again Flint,
I spoke with Kyle and he said that they had over the years had a few people pass away. So they are very comfortable dealing with this situation of speaking with spouses. Your wife will still need to contact them to close your WA account and they will be very supportive. I'm not surprised about this.

So I guess it is up to you now if you choose to sell your website now or stay around for a while.

Chelsea Clarke also has a blog valuation service that might help you. I'll put the link below. Your wife may feel more comfortable dealing with a young woman if you change your mind.

Your blog made me discuss this issue with my husband, thanks.

Warm Regards,
Lily

Hi Lily,
That is very reassuring thank you very much.
All the best
Fintan

Hi Lily,
How are you? I just thought I should let you know that I have managed to sell by health and wellness website through the Flippa.com marketplace. Now I'm kinda stuck on how to move the sale forward, any advice?
Regards,
Fintan

Have you been in contact with the new buyer through Flippa?
I think this was a great decision Fintan.

Lily

Your wife is a lucky lady to have such a considerate husband.

You could try Flippa or Sedo.com. Sedo have an auction coming up, it might be worth a try. It's always a risk when selling a site and what you get will depend on many factors, but just income. A well thought out, easy to navigate, domain with a catchy, easy to remember domain name can fetch twenty times it's yearly income and sometimes more.
I hope this helps. All the best. Jim

Hi Jim,
Wow! I would be happy with 3 times the yearly income! thanks for the advice I hadn't heard of Sedo, might take a look there.
Thanks for your help.
Fintan
