Keep Your Focus Where it's Needed: On Content!
You ever have one of those friends who tells you that they're gonna make changes in their life, starting with their fitness?
So they go to Amazon and start buying all the gear they think they need: workout clothes, gym bag, wristbands, lifting belt, etc.
They go out and get a gym membership. Perfect!
They go online and start joining a bunch of Facebook fitness groups, immersing themselves in the most popular workout routines that have the highest reviews from other members.
They buy a big desk calendar and start laying out what their workout schedule is going to be for the next few months.
Maybe they do a search for an online vendor for meal preps so they can keep their diet on track.
Oh, and don't forget the supplements! They take their time to find the best supplements that will go just right with their diet, adding allowances for protein shakes in there for good measure.
They get a state of the art scale that even detects and measures body fat.
The latest addition to their bathroom is a full length mirror that doubles as a workout coach with routines so they'll be able to get in workouts even when they can't make it to the gym.
Oh and how about that gym?
Are they seeing results?
Well they've haven't actually started hitting the gym yet.
Do we see the issue here?
Don't get caught up with all the other stuff involved with building a website that you forget about the most important aspect: publishing content.
Yes, there are foundational things to build and create, and sure there's moving parts that need to remain updated, etc., but don't get so lost in all the secondary stuff like analytics, clicks, etc., that you lose focus on the entire point of your website: creating content that answers the questions your target audience is searching for answers to.
Make that your priority.
Don't get lost in analysis.
Don't wake up looking at your clicks.
Do your keyword research.
Find the topics your audience is looking for answers to.
Create content that's the answer to those searches.
Repeat.
Everything else is secondary.

I see this all the time with our referral program. Hundreds sign up each month to become an affiliate. They have their URL, their site concept, their hosting, all they need to get started.
Two years later, they still haven't generated a click.
That's why the people who actually get started are so special.
The biggest step is that first one. Once you get in the habit of creating quality content, everything else falls into place. :)
Well said, Eric...I couldn't agree more with your comment, "...creating content that answers the questions your target audience is searching for answers to..."
Sums it all up in about 14 words!

This hits home for me. And its something I need to remedy ASAP!
I ran into some technical obstacles that I let halt my content publishing
Funny thing is that I have several researched and outlined articles on paper in my notebooks.
Procrastination at it's worst.
Thank you for the jolt!!
Stephen
We all need that jolt sometimes! :)
