What Are You Supposed to Capitalize in a Title?

So, I've written about 18 articles over the last month and a half trying to build up to new sites. Every time I write an article, I think "I think that's right." and then wing it. I'm sure many of you do the same thing too.

Well, it's been a long time since I was in high school and they taught me the fundamentals for capitalizing titles. Do you capitalize the "the" or the "or?" What about the number "one?"

Well, fear no more and free yourself from the frustration. I just found a website that you type your title into and it does it for you! I know. Some of you are thinking, what a waste of time! Well for the rest of you that just want to have gramatically correct sentences, try out the website below. My theory is that after writing several articles and plugging in the titles, here, I won't need it any more.

Hope some of you find it useful! Also, its great for headings too! You guys are putting a lot into writing your articles. The way I see it, let's get the small stuff right!

https://capitalizemytitle.com/ (not my site by the way)

Cheers,

Eric

On capitalizing from Harbrace College Handbook: "In titles and subtitles of books, plays, student papers and so on, capitalize the first and last words and all other words except articles, coordinating conjunctions, prepositions, and the infinitives to & in.

Articles are: a, an, the; the coordinating conjunctions are: and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet. Prepositions : from, before, between , through.
The pronoun I is always a capital and hyphenated nouns usually both capitalized: Arab-Israeli.

Capitalize the first word of every sentence and the first word of every direct quote speech."

Hope this helps.

Thanks for putting it so clear!

Very useful for many people, I've no doubt.

Interesting that your question
What Are You Supposed to Capitalize in a Title?
is exactly correct.

It's not that difficult. Unless they're the first word in the title, don't capitalize prepositions, conjunctions or the definite and indefinite articles.

I plugged my title in the website. LOL.

I checked out that link. Very useful. Thanks!

Turns out that is also a great example of a very targeted micro-niche website. They are providing a solution to a problem that a bunch of people must have. Figuring out what words are supposed to be capitalized.

I also thought that. I was thinking, "how clever!"

Thanks for posting this. It will come in very handy if I ever have any doubts. Cool site!

Thank you Eric! I am a stickler for correct grammar and punctuation, but I don't always get it right. That website will be very helpful.

Barbara

Thanks for the heads-up. I know not to capitalize definite articles(a, an, the) and shorter prepositions, but this is very useful.

Thanks aeric. Using Capitals in the correct spot adds to a sites success. Jim

I have asked myself that so many times lately.

My website has a random mix of capitalization mistakes. Some days only the first word is capitalized. Other days everything is. I also have the weird combinations of not capitalizing the "the" and "or" and "and"

Yet, I want to have a professional looking site since I usually promote very high dollar items. I need to learn the grammatical rules again. That includes punctuation also.

I need to check out that website. Thank you.
