Day 2 of Cold monday!

Yesterday morning there was a big frost. It is very important to have some ways to protect plants, We light some home made special kind of sawdust efficient stoves that use very little fuel (wood) and the exhaust is almost smoke free (the stoves have a smoke trap).

All along the vegetable garden and fruit trees area we deploy the stoves every 12 to 20 ft. They are made with 1 gal tin cans and they release heat into the surrounding air almost at ground level, where you find the coldest air. The heated air mixes with cold air as it flows up. What is done is to create warmer microclimatic conditions for the plants to not suffer a frost.

That was an almost a day long labor. This post is yesterdays but published today. Later on I will write today's post

Hope you were able to save most of the crop Eugenio. Hopefully the weather will improve for you soon so that you can get some time to rest a bit.
Jerome

Thanks Jerome:
The crop was gone, except for a few plants, but we still have january and february frosts coming! Could not stand the freeze, but that is how nature works.
Greetings and all the best to you in 2018 my friend!
Eugenio.

Great story, like hearing how that was accomplished.
Thank you for posting.

Have a wondrous Christmas.

Great story, really enjoyed learning a new trick.

You rock!
Have a blessed day

It sounds like a lot of work, but then again, it probably isn't as much work as you would have to do to replace your crops. It's protecting the investment of time and money that you have put in.

How amazing, I never knew about that. I didn't realize you get a cold stream down your way, shows you how little I know about Mexico.
Do you find this is an expensive way to protect your plants?
Cheers, Jae

Wow, that is a lot of work. Great job getting it done.

Remains, me off, all the Florida's, and setting up those, smoke pots!!...

I remember those days taking care of trees when we would get frost. I didn't know it got that cold where you are.
