Case Study - How Long It Takes [New Website]
So I started a new website recently and want to document it's progress as I move forward.
I know everyone who is just starting out wonders how long it takes to really get your site going, which is an incredibly difficult question to answer, but I hope this serves as a decent answer to the question over the coming months.
Analytics
Right now it has been 2 months and 7 days since creation (created Jan 15th) and this is what the analytics of my site look like...
*The traffic early on was from me working on the site mostly. This was before I blocked my IP address from being tracked. There is also a large spike you can see that I'm not counting. I have no idea what that was from but it was strange. The traffic later that I circled is real.
Important Stats:
- Site Age - 2 months, 7 days
- Record Day - 10 users
- Record Week - 38 users
- # of Posts - 31
- Page 1 Google Rankings - 2
Progress Report
This isn't my main site so I've been posting sporadically. Sometimes I'll post an article a couple days in a row and other times I'll go a week without posting... Not exactly the best method but I'm just doing what I can at this point.
It might be hard to compare to your own site because of course how much time and effort you put into it makes a big difference, but you might be able to get some sort of idea of what to expect.
I'm getting most of my traffic from a single article at this point, although I have 2 already ranked on page 1 of Google. The crazy thing is that one of my articles was got ranked on page 1 of Google when the site was around 2 weeks old, which I have never experienced before. It is a very low competition keyword but not too shabby.
I know this post isn't too exciting, but hopefully some of the following updates will help motivate some of you by showing some good progress.
Not too much to show yet, but there will be!
Update: June 28th, 2019
I let my site sit for the past 3 months without doing a thing and got a huge increase in traffic. You an read about it in my post "How to Marinate a Website".
About The Website
So I'm not going to be disclosing my domain because I don't want people copying keywords and such. It's a pretty good niche (so I think) and you can understand why.
I will tell you however that the niche is a subniche of the large Health niche. It has to do with healthy eating and such but that's all I'll tell you.
As far as the articles go, I shoot for 1000 words per post. Some fall a bit short and some are longer.
Stay tuned. I'll be posting updates whenever I think it's a good time.
And if there are any other stats about my site you would like me to share then let me know in the comments below.

Hey Kyle, haven’t read the comments yet so don’t know if this has been mentioned yet but I think it would be great to show stats for your organic users as this is the type of traffic everyone is aiming for.
Best Regards
Brandon
Hi Brandon,
All of the users will be organic for the most part. No PPC or anything.
Or do you mean maybe show the stats in Search Console for the number of organic clicks to my site?
Hey Kyle,
I mean showing the stats since audience overview can show direct, social, and organic mixed together. For all I know the 38 users you have so for, half could be direct
This will be a super valuable case study!
Not many are willing to do this kind of
case studies and report its progress.
Thank you so much, Kyle.
This will be a great resource for answering
the question "how long it takes...?"
Looks like your doing the same thing Philip did with his case study on the WA program. :)
that's a great idea Kyle. You know I joined under you over a year ago. I'm still working hard.
I'm still pushing out content, but I never give up! And that's the statement here. Never give up! It takes time.
With hard work and patients it can come to fruition.
I hope to see your new website grow as I'm sure it will.
All the best Kyle.

Actions Lead To Results!
Hi Aaron.
Ya I remember you. It's good to hear you are still pushing ahead.
I'll have to check out Philips post.
Good stuff. Keep us posted. Revealing the niche will also screw up your data from people snooping, lol.
I actually just bought $700 worth of articles to start a site. Gonna post them all at the same time and just let the site sit.
Ya that is true.
Where did you buy the articles from? And how many articles will that get you? It will be interesting to see how that turns out.
Thanks for the web performance info you started; will be an interesting guide for us newbees.that would be of help!
Thank you again and have a great day!

Hi Kyle,
This is very helpful. I started a new blog about a month ago and I have averaged about 1000 words per post. It has taken me some time to find a niche I really like and look forward to writing about. I forgot to adjust the SEO in Wordpress, once I did that last week, I rec'd a notification from WA that my website was finally indexed this weekend. It was good to see your stats, gives me a comparison.
Thanks for sharing a case study for us newbies.
