I was trying to figure out a way to inform my Facebook Friends about the great lessons I am learning here at Wealthy Affiliate on building an online business. So far they have not clicked the affiliate links that I have posted. But they did like my posts that told them about the lessons taught here.

It was time to take a different tack.

So I wrote the following post directed to a different audience than on Wealthy Affiliate. Rather long for Facebook. But without the pics. In Facebook you can only add pics at the end. I added one that I took in the Caribbean three years ago. And that is what I will also be adding at the end of this blog post.

The articles I plan to follow up with is a synopsis on how I am learening to build a business online using the lessons at Wealthy Affiliate. Where appropriate I shall also include affiliate links.

Please leave me a comment on what you think about this approach to connect with Facebook Friends. My objective is to get a few of them to click into Wealthy Affiliate and see for themselves what we have here. Any members here who have had success in inviting their Facebook friends to join Wealthy Affiliate please advize on your approach.

My Facebook Article

Social Media is a strange beast. It not only means different things to different people, but it can also mean different things to the same person depending on the age they are at that moment in time.

When you are in your 20s, you have all the time in the world to socialize and have fun. As well as to achieve one's goals.

When I was in my 20s I had no idea what I would be doing 50 years later. Frankly, at that time I didn't get the lessons young people get today on planning for their future.

Life's Lessons

I reacted to my life rather than creating my life. Those lessons came years later after I decided to leave my job in England and emigrate to Canada. I had no job in hand and less than $1000 in savings. Since time was on my side and being single, I had no worries in the world.

Instead of looking for a job in Canada, I spent my money traveling by train from coast-to-coast before hitting my destination in Toronto. Talk about being care free and optimistic about the future!

Going Broke

If it wasn't for friends and family putting me up until I got a job, I would have been homeless being completely broke. I was and still am so grateful for their kindness. I learned the important lesson of paying it forward.

It's uncanny how one's perspective changes as we get older. It's all about the ratio of expected future life to life expended.

A Different Perspective On Life

Let me elaborate. It is realistic barring any major accident or health issues, to live say on average, to 85. My Mum passed away a few days shy of her 85th Birthday. Hence, I can relate.

When I was in my 20s, I had about 325% more life to live. Now that I am in my 70s, that number has reduced to about 20%. I am putting into numbers what is pure common sense. Those my age can relate to this I'm sure. I feel very fortunate that I am still alive and in reasonably good health.

Focus On The Important

Clearly I want to live as long as I can because there is so much more to do. And I feel the best is yet to come. Call that wishful thinking. But why not?

Since time is running out, I am more focused on the truly important things in life. And that is doing whatever I can to help others, including my family, in any way I can. To me that means continuous learning. Such as mastering the Internet to make it serve me

[Added Note For Wealthy Affiliate: When I hear comments that it can take years, in some cases 10 to become successful in any kind of Online Marketing, I don't have that much time. So I MUST do whatever it takes to build an income generating asset in about two years. I want to be able to enjoy the weath I will be creating.]

Since I feel wiser, note that I said "feel" not "am", I want to spread what I learn and help others through Social Media. It's all good. And fun too!

When you read my posts from now on, remember, you may be able to benefit from what I am learning. This is one way to pay it forward. So stay tuned.

Cheers!

I find your posts here to be wise, and I think that some of your FB friends must feel that too. Just be yourself! (As if you could be anyone else.)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Edwin. Hope all the best for your future efforts. Keep trying to improve and sharing with others, that's the way to go.
Ray

Thank you Edwin, your post is very inspiring to me! I’m very grateful to be a part of this amazing community and I realize that we never stop learning.

The way you are writing , it looks like you are in great shape. You are an example of how age is not important, but rather the passion, fire and energy inside you. Thank you that you frequently inspire us( babies in WA like me) via your posts.

Aha, now that is a new twist. I wish I could inspire my FB friends to check out WA! Maybe after I've written more posts and shown them the results I'm getting they will have a change of heart!

Glad you liked my post.

Cheers.

Edwin

I'm hoping you will tell us if your new FB technique works...I just recently put my WA website on FB. Already had a page for the other one, but now they are both up there. We'll see if I get any results...

Hi Fran, I also have created a Facebook Business page where I post affiliate links from Wealthy Affiliate. My traffic is virtually nil.

I hear advice such as joining other pages that are business oriented and offering help to people who post problems they need solving. Gradually they can be steered to specific posts on Wealthy Affiliate that addresses their problem with a solution.

This is all a process. When I get results I will be over the moon and definitely will share in WA.

I hope your FB efforts an out too.

Cheers.

Edwin

I do get some comments, and have invited many people to "share" my stories. That might help. I also joined 15 groups on FB that are in my niche. I don't comment on them as much as I should, but that helps a little.

Your posts are always so insightful, educational and full of wisdom. I think you should go for it ! Make them hungry and they will come.
Peace💗

I definitely will be going for it. My next step it so post a series of mini lessons that mimic those we are taught in WA. I shall also add the affiliate links that are relevant to my FB article.

When I get results I shall be writing about that here.

Thanks for your kind words and your encouragement.

Cheers.

Edwin

I can relate!

Great to kmow!

Cheers.

Edwin

Top post Edwin, you go for it mate.

Always enjoy your posts, they are full of wisdom.

All the best, you can do it.

Regards
Darren

Darren,

Thanks for your vote of confidence. I'll keep WA posted when I get any results.

Cheers.

Edwin

Perspective sure does change over time. You're so right! I remember when having fun meant getting muddy, climbing trees and playing outside until the street light came on. :) Darn, that was a long time ago.

So nostalgic. Right? At least we have those memories to enjoy!

Cheers.

Edwin

Life sure does change as we grow older Edwin
I am 60 and figure hard work for the next 5 years and I might just be in a position to do more of the things I love
I hope this is for you as well
Vicki

Vicki,

You will make it. I wish I had discovered Wealthy Affiliate when I was 60. That was when Kyle and Carson was in business for about one year. So maybe it may not have been that good a time as the website would have been very elementary.

But five years ago would have been just right.

Thanks for your comments.

Edwin

Time is irrelevant really Edwin, You have got this!!!
Be awesome
Vicki
