Scam alert!
Hi member,
Just wanted to share about a call I just receive today, in reference to lowering your credit card interest rate. It prompted me to press 1 to speak to someone. So this guy answers my call and I asked what is this in reference to? he indicated he is from Card Member Service, and the purpose of his call was about how he could help me lower my credit card interest rate. He then proceeds and ask what is the balance on the card I have I with the highest interest rate? I asked him I said if you have my information then why would you want to know the name of the card. So I hung up! He calls back again from a different number and I asked him how did you get my number, he says that Experian had sent me a letter and I told him I never received a letter from Experian, I said I am going to call Experian and ask about the letter he then hung up! I called Experian and told them my incident, and also gave the two numbers the guy called from.
So please be aware of the SCAMS.
Cheerfully,
Elizabeth

Phone scams are just everywhere these days, in the UK we have lots of "you have been in an accident" calls, and the latest is a call from "Microsoft" saying your computer is infected, and the delightful chap talks you through setting up a TeamViewer session and subsequently directing you to a link to pay £299 to clear the virus. I kept the bloke on the phone for over an hour doing all the steps he asked me, obviously I didn't even turn my computer on and have enough IT know how to keep this guy talking and baffled that what I was trying wasn't working, he got his "IT expert" to talk to me and also his "manager". In the end they got quite angry when I challenged their knowledge as "microsoft" employees and hung up. But i can see how easily people can fall for this scams
Sam, yes I also had a call from someone saying they were from "Microsoft" the same thing they told you is what they told me about my computer being infected. Luckily I caught on to it. Then I call my service provider to inform them as well. They advised me to turn off my computer for at least 20 minutes. That is why when i encounter situations like this I share so were all aware. Thanks again for sharing as well.

It sure was Rick, and the guy was so persistent! But of course hung up when I said I'm calling the company Experian. We just have to be cautious.

Thanks for the heads up. I got 2 calls regarding balances I owe on my cards. The problem is I don't owe anything on my cards.
