Sometimes describing a problem is difficult

Yesterday I did some class watching. One of Eric's latest. Whilst watching it he talks about leveraging training links to generate new content. So, I thought 'Wouldn't it be great to show non-members the range of classes they could take'.?

@Kyle (and @EricCantu) say we can link to any page in WA by simply appending our affiliate link to the end of the url.

Indeed, the classes themselves can be linked to, by using the provided link code.

So, I set about linking to the parent class categories with an appended affiliate code .......

....... and when I tested them as a logged out user I got a 404 error. But, only when the class category name had multiple words. When the class category name is a single word (in the url) it works fine. 🫣

'seo' works

'affiliate-marketing' doesn't.

@EricCantu actually looked into it and found this out. So, we decided this needed to go to SiteSupport. I created a ticket.

Sometimes its hard to describe the problem

Getting SiteSupport to see what I was pointing out to them wasn't easy.

The first reply I had was simply to say 'WA courses are only available to members, they can't be accessed by non-members', so they attempted an answer.

Now, they are right, non-members can't actually watch member-only videos (they actually get a snippet and are then asked to join), but that wasn't what I was pointing out.

We can link to WA member-only videos as an affiliate, but not the parent categories, unless the category name is a single word!

This is clearly not right. I'm currently waiting for a further reply. I'll update as soon as I have a response.

Do you sometimes find that actually finding out how/where to ask a question is more difficult than the problem itself?

Well, Dave, Although there are many parts of this digital world where all words and terms are international, there are others that are not! especially people from farther north in the UK, lingo's get stranger and words can most certainly be different :-)

And in the WA community and especially the higher archy we have 2 other major versions of English on the playing field.

It's just a thought on how/where it could be more difficult to explain things. 😂🤣😂🤣

Cheeky bugger 😂😂😂

🤣🤣🤣 Nicely put Rob!!!

I'll say no more!! :-)

we have to have humour Jessie

Absolutely we do my friend!

I would be lost without it!!!

👍🤣👍🤣

Often times, the problem isn’t the problem.

We may be working on our WordPress website, trying to get some 404 error fixed, and even if it is fixed, it wouldn’t make us a penny.

Maybe the solution is to focus on a “different problem”, which might be an empty bank account.

I see a lot of content on this WA platform of people tinkering with their WordPress website, and it is not revenue, producing activity.

What if your website IS the problem?

What if you’re real problem, is a bank account with little or no money in it.

What is the real solution was printing up a bunch of business cards with a QR code that goes to your landing page, and all you have to do is distribute these business cards.

Sometimes, but in this case several 404 errors on the same page wouldn't have been good. When the site is promoting the platform, it's a critical fix.

I'll not publish the page until this is resolved. I'll do a bit of dog walking instead 😎

Dave

Yep, I feel the same way sometimes! Surround yourself with the smart people, so you don't have to go hunting 😂. Have a good one brother! Robert

Thanks Robert, i'll chill a bit. 😎

Interesting. Looking forward to the update.

It might be simple to fix, or it might be a nightmare. 😂
