Percentage of Success

More years ago than I want to think about, I played the piano, guitar or mandolin for someone who sang for large gatherings or intimate groups. I have never been a good musician, but rather someone that enjoyed playing.

I would often banter with the audience between songs. Sometimes I would tell the audience that I wanted them to listen to my playing using the percentage theory of music. This meant that if I played 10,000 notes during the evening and made 10 noticeable mistakes, that's a pretty darn good percentage of correct notes.

Many new WAers write about not understanding something in one of the lessons or not being able to get something put onto their website. Folks write about frustration with ranking or difficulty with keywords. All these things mean that something has to be learned or practiced or fixed. Those things are probably not the whole story. There is a great deal of successful learning going on in each of the cases where difficulty or small failures are present.

I suggest that people judge how well they are doing using " Percentage of Success." If someone is learning, fixing or solving 300 issues during the day and having difficulty with 3, that's a pretty darn good percentage of success. Percentage of success should make it easier for you to keep on fishin'!
