Posting on Social Media

There is a great deal written, in the WA community, on the value of social media for marketing. Every SM forum has been described in a training, sometime. This is all great information. But, I believe it is only helpful if its applied.

Have you watched your Twitter Feed recently? Tweet something and immediately begin to write a new tweet. By the time you are done writing that 140 character message, you are likely to see a notification that there are several new tweets.

In the time it took me to get a screen shot of the message above and place it in this post, the message had changed.

For the sake of discussion, I will say that it took me 5 minutes to copy and paste that first message. Doing the math, at that rate every 5 minutes all day, each tweet is one of 13,248 in 24 hours. I suppose that more followers correlates to more new tweets.

I have no doubt that there are many fewer posts on my Facebook and Google + feeds. But, I am thinking that, if I only post once or twice daily in any forum, my posts will be lost. I am trying to make 20 posts on in each forum throughout the day. Since I am using social media to market my site, I am working on the assumption that as many posts possible made daily, on each forum, will help me keep on fishin'!

Hi Jim,

This is a very good point you bring up. 46 new posts and in the time it took you to copy and paste and that is just based on how many people you are following. I have some accounts that have thousands of people that I'm following, there's literally no way that I could read them all in a day.

So food for thought. Don't be surprised if no one sees nor likes your posts.

The same really goes for all platforms.

Thanks for the post.

good post thank you for sharing

Great point Jim, from my experience it unfortunately is not a one size fits all approach. What will work with twitter, will on Facebook probably result in you loosing followers.

I have heard twitter described as a news ticker, with on message after another scrolling across your screen. As a result you can post the same content multiple times a day and it may reach your followers.

Whereas depending on who you talk to about Facebook recommend between 1 and 3 posts a day tops (and each post has to be different). Linkedin, pinterest, instagram, google+ all have their own different requirements.

While I am not marketing to twitter at the moment, I know when I start it will require the use of some automation. I know I will have to have regular tweets going out frequently during the day and I will not be able to do that manually.

46 tweets in 5 minutes would be great. But unfortunately this happens not every 5 minutes.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

Thanks. I need to use social media more.

Yes, productivity needs to be high on some of these sites

Thanks.

I haven't started posting anything on any of the social medias, I am hoping that it won't be too complicated for me.

Thanks for sharing
