Get Over It!

I will tell people about restaurants that I enjoy even to the point of recommending menu items. I have no problem talking about books I have read or movies that I have seen. . In fact, encouraging people to try things that i have enjoyed often leads to great conversations and deepening relationships. For some reason, my culture has a hieracrchy for sharing ideas.

The more superficial the idea or experience, the easier it is to share. The converse is true. When someone begins to tell me something because they want my opinion or want me to paricipate, my heart rate goes up. It goes down again when they begin to talk about subjects likes sports, or entertainment. "Wow, I am really surprised that the 49ers are undefeated." There are a lot of ways to respond. Most will be as superficial as the statement.

But if I say, "Wow, I was surprised by a sermon I heard on Sunday!" Heart rates go up. "Wow, did you hear what happened in Washington today." Folks turn purple and stop breathing. How about, "Wow, can I tell you about a great new online business training program I found?" New speed walking records are set as people rush to get away from me.

Its true. Often I don't want to share what is important to me or to hear what is really important to others, in case our opinions differ. I saw this cartoon and thought, "Get over it, Share." Particularly, if I want to share is politically, religiously, tonsorially, culturally and ever other "ly" neutral.

I worry about sharing my wonderful WA experience with others. I should be telling everyone about my websites. But, because this is so personal and has added so much to my life, I don't want to hear anything negative. But things that change my life for the better should be the easiet to share. I don't worry if someone goes to a movie I recommend and doesn't like it. With WA's free trial, anyone checking it out can just stop if its not for them. Anyone who doesn't like my website, can click off it. So, I say to Myself and other WAers, "Get over it. Share" about WA because you have been challenged and learned. Share your website because you created it. Share while you keep on fishing.

Absolutely! Get out of your comfort zone, be real, and deep

I'm inspired by your statement. People are used to the easy me that's predictable. Here he goes again. That's the beauty of community. We learn the language and skills and share. Thanks. Jeffrey Hermes

Thanks for the candid remarks. My goal is to get myself situated in WA to the point where I am sure of myself. I believe in the program - just lacking in my comprehsion of it all. So, I am determined to be found trying. Good wishes to all!

Thanks, Jim. what you say is so true. People run from me like I have the plague when I mention WA to them! Have a Great Weekend!!

Jeff

I guess I did, too, when first mentioned to meet. Thanks for taking the time to read the article.

It has been said by many that people want to talk about themselves. While this may be true, it is also true that people in our society are uncomfortable about hearing of a way to get out of a mindset that has been instilled in them from birth.
Continue to talk about your experience here and how it has allowed you to grow in every aspect of your life. My hat is off to you for having the courage to enlighten people you know.
Jerry

Thanks for taking time to read the post. I will take you advice.

Great response. Jerry. I think you hit the nail on the head!
