Received this today from Wordpress.com, did anybody else? Should I take action? It appears I can still log in to my sites.

"Hello,

We recently discovered your log

Wordpress dot com has nothing to do with your WordPress website which is hosted at Wealthy Affiliate. Never click links in emails, just go directly to the website concerned. Try to log in at wordpress dot com and if there's no problem then you'll know it was a hoax.

Me too never received something alike.

Never received anything like this.

I have just received the exact same email. Did not click any links, but decide to just go and change my PW at wordpress after reading some of the answers below.

Mikael

This is a common thing to receive if you're using repeated, simple passwords. I recommend using something like LastPass to generate random, secure and unique passwords for every site you use.

I got the same email today too. Hmmm

Strange, did it say what username the reset procedure was initiated from?

Nope, says exactly the same as your email. I don't even remember my login details. Must have signed up as Rich said below for the 'Gravatar' purpose.

Actually it says the user name is my email without the email host part.

Yes, it's hard to spot, mine had a made up username in it. I don't think it is a concern, it's likely the person tried to initiate a password reset using the wrong username.

Ah wait...I see whats happened. Somebody has requested a password reset against one of my sites using an incorrect username.

I have had a number of failed login attempts on my site. Ever since I installed a plugin called "WP Cerber" which alerts me to suspicious activity on my sites I have had alerts of failed logins.

It may well be legit, and there's no harm in changing your password, just don't click on any links in it, but go yourself to http://www.wordpress.com and change it there.

You can often work out where your credentials have been compromised by entering the email address you originally used to sign up with http://Wordpress.COM over at https://haveibeenpwned.com/

It's definitely legit - but to be safe I always go direct to sites when I receive emails like this anyway. I am just unsure whether I need to do anything since we use Siterubix.

You probably signed up with http://Wordpress.COM for something like Gravatar, or Akismet, maybe Woocommerce, etc.

One of my sites was getting over 100 hits per day consistently. Until recently, over the last 7 days it has dropped to under 10 hits per day! :(

I have googled this and

Hey Dave, do you have many old posts, you may want to try resurrecting yr old posts : If you are promoting WA, the resources may give you some tips and ideas :

Hey Jewel, I might try this, thanks!

Are you actively creating content on this website? If you stop content production, Google believes a site to be "inactive" and rankings can sharply start to drop.

Could this be the case?

If the source wasn't search traffic and was coming from a Reddit post or something that has much more temporary traffic value, this could be why as well.

Hey Kyle, thanks for swinging by!

I try to maintain regular posts but it is hard when I also have to run my Amazon and Ebay stores.

I took a lot on when I started with WA I started several sites and I always knew it would take me longer to reach any level of success.

Most of my rankings appear to still be there - but if they were to falter, could I regain them by starting regular posts again?

It could well be a back link that has disappeared, I worked with a back linker once and stopped a while back. I also used to post in more places than as of late (My Amazon business is getting busier...).

I'm here for the long haul, I have quit working on some of my other sites to focus 100% on my number one.

Thanks again Kyle for your awesome advice and also for giving me and everyone else Wealthy Affiliate!

Dave

I would suggest checking traffic sources then and now in Acquisition- All Traffic- Source/Medium. Chances are you've had some fake traffic before which has stopped. Or some links got broken. That would be my starting point.

I check this daily, but when I get as far as "Keyword not provided" I get lost. I need to learn Google Analytics a bit more.

I will work on more content and see where it takes me, thanks for your help billybons :)

This may be a fake or a ghost traffic. There are ways to filter it.It's been discussed here at WA, I just don't have links right now.

What were you doing previously that you don't do anymore?

Nothing to my knowledge.

My google rankings are still in place.

Maybe a backlink has been taken down?
