https://gtmetrix.com suggests activating "keep alive" in my .htaccess file. Is there a simple way to do this? How can I update this file with the code suggested? How do I acces
Hi,
if you are not an experienced web developer, I would not recommend doing any of that.
I have a little experience, but most of this stuff is still over my head.
There are a few plugins that can speed up your site greatly.
You can use the ones gtmetrix recommends:
https://gtmetrix.com/wordpress-optimization-guide.html
(I haven't tried those!)
Or you can give this guide a try: How to Dramatically Speed Up Your Website (That's what I did.)
Let me know how it goes.
Moritz
Thanks for that terrific advice, Moritz. Here's the report I left with Marcus.
I went through this process and got some pretty dramatic results, both good and bad. My pagespeed score went from 81% to 97% and yslow from 84 to 88 - both excellent "A" scores. But my pageload time went through the roof. From about 1.6 to 11.4 - ouch. I will try to figure this out and report my findings............Jim
If you have any thoughts, please let me know. I'll be digging in to see if I can figure it out......Jim
That is very intersting, because my pageload time is similar to yours!
I thought it might be the hosting, but since you have a similar load time now, it might actually be caused by one of those plugins!
I will investigate, too!
(Sometimes my load time is around 3s, but more often it's at 11s, too.)
It does.
In my case it could be that I didn't install a chaching plugin and didn't set up cloudflare either (I don't think that was part of the training when I went through it. Not sure, though.)

Speed up site performance using keep alive?

MoritzS has some great resources for you, but it's still VERY early on in your website business process and you should not be worry about website speed. There's really nothing on your website to slow it down.
You are much better off focusing on building out content, and keeping plugins to a minimum, as well as not using too large of images. With those two rules (few plugins, no giant images), you'll be fine.
Oh, and for future reference your FTP login details are located with your websites, here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites
Thanks for that information Nathaniell. I fall into the trap of trying to make everything perfect at each step in the course. I'll get back on track and keep building content. I know the importance of that process. Thanks again.

Canvakala is touted as The Photoshop for Wordpress. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with it.
While I don't know anything about the plugin itself, I do get concerned when I see thousands of reviews (many posted within the past week) promising many thousands of dollars in bonuses for buying it. Something just doesn't feel right about that.
The image below is from a google search for "Canvakala review" (without the quotes).
Yeah, Nathaniel -- I guess I've just gotten a bit cynical over the years.
Should I get the $250,000 in bonuses or the $320,000 in bonuses? Decisions, decisions. :=)
I believe it was just launched yesterday. The reason I asked was that some of the theme developers have been recommending it. I just wondered if anyone had actually used it. The bonuses worth thousands? Most of the bonuses are just outdated rubbish ;-)

I've found a domain name I like and I'm about to buy it. Should I buy privacy protection?
It is not imperative to make your name an exact match. There are lots of ways to make it what you want it to say by using numbers or slang spellings like Thru or Skulz, things like that. Play with it.
San
You get free privacy protection with namecheap.com, so I recommend getting it from there since it's free!
Thanks for that info, Nathaniell. I'm spending so much time on Jaaxy right now and as a result I've decided to change my strategy a bit and was hoping you could help. I have an ecommerce store (healthonlinerx.com) and I think I might as well use my knowledge from WA to drive traffic to it. As I progress (course 1 lesson 7) I'm learning more stuff and decided to switch from self-help to health. Can you give me any insight as to this decision?
I never buy the protection, let me know what others say, if they say it is important, I will start purchasing it for my domains...
