Getting Back to Work

Well, I have been very lax in my blog work for the past six months. I traveled to Turkey and Ireland for a month each, then Mexico for six weeks. I need to figure out a way to keep updating my site even when I'm traveling and can't bake myself.

I have had time to reflect on my baking website, and I've come up with some refinements. I had moved toward gluten-free and/or vegan recipes, but frankly, that's just not my passion. I don't personally have any problem with gluten, and I grew up in Kansas so I have no problem with meat, eggs, cheese, milk, etc. What I *am* interested in is living more naturally and making healthier choices in food. So I'm refining my focus back to organic foods and not so much gluten-free stuff.

Of course, I'll have to rework a lot of keyword searches, because the gluten-free items are really high right now. But that's a risk I'll have to take. My traffic is very steady, even without posting a lot over the past 3 months or so. Once I start posting again, I'll see it increase. I've sold several items from the site and made maybe $50 or so. Not a lot, but better 'n a stick in the eye! And I think my lack of passion for the topic was hurting my ambition.

Now I'm digging out my old recipe books and marking things up with a much more critical eye. One thing I want to start doing is taking classic recipes and adjusting them to accommodate more natural ingredients. Whole wheat brioche anyone?

Sounds yummy! I really like your idea of going with your passion! And right now the audience of people looking for healthy ways to create tasty meals and deserts is growing. I wish you success! :) The trips sound like fun! :) Welcome back!

Do a Google Search for * Baked Pancakes *

I tried them & was amazed. I think you will be, also.

I will never prepare the conventional Pancakes again.

Give the "Baked Pancakes" a try.

Thanks for the tip! They sound fun.

Hey Don,

Great post, and I absolutely believe that refining your niche to something that you ARE passionate about makes a lot of sense. One idea though, rather than ditch the GF niche that you have made, and have some beginnings of success in, perhaps just keep that as a dedicated area of your site so that you can even have "guest blogs" and keep the SEO for that up, and perhaps even grow that following as part of the page. The Organic portion is definitely a growing area, and with the right angle can really be a huge part of your growth! Keep up the awesome work. Sarah

Good ideas Sarah. Thanks.
