BBM Channels - A New Social Marketing Tool

Blackberry has introduced a new social feature on BBM called Channels. If you are looking for a new weapon in your social marketing attack, you might want to check it out. Channels have been available to Blackberry mobile users since May 2013 and have just been introduced cross platform with a free download for Android and Apple.
What are BBM Channels?
Best described as a little bit of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram all in one place. It's like having your own mini blog. You create posts where you can add images, up to 400 characters of text and the ability to link readers to your actual website for the full version of your latest blog. A menu bar keeps track of any Channels that you own, ones that you subscribe to and also some featured Channels from Blackberry (all free). Because BBM was designed for mobile from the start, the navigation and user interface are comfortable and reader friendly.
Once you have downloaded BBM on your phone it is very easy to set up your own Channel. You can do this using your phone or from your computers desktop. I will provide a link below from Blackberry with additional information and set up instructions.
Facebook just paid 19 BILLION DOLLARS (with a B) to purchase the WhatsApp messaging service. WOW! If that doesn't indicate the importance of mobile marketing now and in the future, I don't know what will. Having a mobile marketing strategy is a must for any online business.
Many celebrities, sports figures and brands have started to embrace BBM Channels as a new way to interact with their fans and customers. Major brands like Coca Cola, UPS, Mercedes Benz, Time and Rolling Stone Magazine all have Channels up and running. This new social media platform is in its infancy but with mobile messaging taking center stage in the battle of the giants (Google, Facebook and Microsoft etc.) it just might pay off to get in on the ground floor.
BBM already has over 80 million (and growing) users and with the Channels feature being so new, it seems like getting in now would be a pretty good move.
