Do you need a Free Domain Name?

Hi Family!!!

And yes, I do mean all of you!!! As you can guess, I feel right at home here at WA....which means.....I share whatever knowledge and information I may have that can be of help to anyone.

Ok....let's get back to the subjec of this blog today.......Do you need a Free Domain Name??? We already know that we get free siterubix sites here with domain names of ours, that reside on the siterubix directory...ok....and we also know that Siterubix can also hots upto 25 (correct me if I'm wrong) domains of our own on the server here at WA. That's fantastic right, but what if your site has such a long url and doesn't sound so exciting with the Siterubix tag at the back of it......what if there was an easier and more cost effective way of gettting a free domian name of choice kinda like a .com domain??? Would you be interested???

Some time back, when I first tried my hand at Affiliate Marketing and had my affiliate links created on vendor sites to help push sales through my links, many of the links did not look very appealing and were rather long winded, as a result, I searched for various options to find that could help, short of buying a domain name from any of the well known sites like Hostzilla, GoDaddy, NameCheap etc. You might call me cheap, but sometimes, we may be in situations where every single cent counts, even more so when you don't have enough to buy food for the family table.....anyway....let's stay on course here...

I tried concealing or shortening my links by going to tiny url, but though the links created were shorter, they were neither memorable nor attractive......then I chanced on a website that gave away free domain names.....

Would you believe that? All you have to do is type in the domain name that you want, and if it was available, you could choose to have it free for 3 months up to a year, and then all you need to do is renew it for up to another year, and it carries on.

You do have the option of getting the domain for a longer period than a year, but then there will be a cost involved, but hey, you can just opt for 12 months, set a reminder so that when your time is almost due, you can just renew your site, better yet, await their email reminder that your site will expire soon, and then just login and renew it for another 12 months....wallah!!!

Well, you know what I did, I registered a few domain names here related to the products that I was promoting and all I had to do was follow their instructions on how to redirect traffic to the new domains by pasting my original affiliate link into the apporpriate boxes....

You have the choice of getting domains ending with .tk, .ml, .ga, .cf, and .gq - no doubt they are not .com or .info or .net.......etc......but woulnd't it look better to have a site

named......danskindleapps.tk rather than

clickbank.loop.ahshnodg110480w./ldkgh?

What do you think?

Game to check it out?

Then head over to http://freenom.com

Let me know what you think!

Blessings!

thanks. I am going to try it.

Please read my comment below -- freenom has had its domain acceditation revoked by ICANN.

Freenom, the company behind .tk and other freebie ccTLDs, has had its ICANN registrar accreditation suspended for cybersquatting competing registrars including Go Daddy and Key-Systems.

I've already regitered. Thank you for your help.

BUT WHO ACTUALLY OWNS THE DOMAIN NAME? For the annual cost of a real dot com name any dodgy discounts are not worth the time and effort. ~Marion

What a great tip !!!!! You are a great example of what networking is all about....thank you!

Wow...wishing you blogged weeks ago. I am a newbie and paid Go Daddy $110 for 3 domain names (.com.net.and .org). Thanks for the brilliant idea.

If you paid $110, you must have bought more than just those 3 domain name registrations. (A new .com registration cost $3 for the first year and $15 for the second for a total two-year cost of $18

Also, please see my comment below regarding Freenom's ICANN suspension.

HUGE RED FLAG ---

Freenom suspended for cybersquatting rival registrars

Freenom, the company behind .tk and other freebie ccTLDs, has had its ICANN registrar accreditation suspended for cybersquatting competing registrars including Go Daddy and Key-Systems.

OpenTLD, its registrar business, has been told it cannot accept new registrations or inbound transfers from July 8 to October 6 or until it provides ICANN with a full list of the names it squatted.

I believe it’s the first time ICANN has suspended a registrar for this reason.

The suspension notice states:

ICANN has found that OpenTLD has engaged in a pattern and practice of trafficking in or use of domain names identical or confusingly similar to a trademark or service mark of a third party in which the Registered Name Holder has no rights or legitimate interest

That’s a long-winded way of saying “massive cybersquatting”.

Thanks for the headsup Bob! WIll check out the links and update this blog accordingly!

Hi Dan; thanks for sharing this.
I agree it looks better than a long drawn out link.
I also believe this can and will help out members who are struggling financially.
So if a member doesn't have the ten or fifteen dollars for a .com,.net.or .org then yes this is a viable way to go.
Again,thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing,
I only had to pay ten dollars for
my domain name

Thank you for the post Dan, but I think I'll pass on it. $15 a year gets a dot com domain name.....if someone can't afford that, they really can't afford to be into internet marketing in total. .com, .net and .org seem to be the standard now....with .com the preferred. And I guess it's that way for a reason.

Hey Wayne,
Thanks for stopping by to read my blog and leave you comments. I appreciate it very much. I guess you might be right in some way, but for those who are just starting out, you never know who may need it until they have sufficient to purchase a proper domain name....I guess, some of us may have expereinced that, while others may be fortunate enough not to have experienced that...either way...we all have choices to make.....I just try my best to help others with any free resources that I come across and can be of use and help, or at least until they are able to upgrade....
Blessings!
