Fear of writing

Is that a thing? Fear of writing? It sure seems that way to me.

I've been stalling on my website. Mainly because I have this fear that my writing will be terrible or that I'll mess up or it won't be perfect. I mean, this is the internet we're talking about; everyone will see it!

I know I need to get over this and just start writing. And I will. I'll get there. I won't quit.

Have you dealt with fear of writing? Any tips?

Thanks for reading!

It may seem a simple post, Daniel, but for me, I believe it's one of the apparently simplest, yet most profound posts, I've read. I think that fear of writing for the world to see is a real problem for many of us, but that you have written about your fear for all us here to read, means that you have more than sufficient ability to overcome such fear. Bear in mind also that everyone is facing one fear or the other in a world that is as changeable as the weather over which we have very little or no control, so I also like your highlight about conquering fear. Thanks much for such a simple, but very inspiring post.

Just keep writing and the words will flow as you learn.

Writing is a craft and like all crafts you have to get familiar with it and pass through growing pains. But once mastered, there are myriad benefits from having made the journey,.

It may sound trite, (and I apologise if it does,) but the only way to get over this is to just do it. The more you do the easier it becomes :)

Hello Daniel,

I have a fear of writing as well. I need to get over this, because the only way to succeed with internet marketing is to write prolifically.

I agree with Paul. What he says is absolutely true. When I write every day, I seem to get on a roll and don't fear writing so much. But when I stop writing for a few days, I start to fear it again.

I think (and I am saying this to myself, as much as I am saying it to anyone) that the only way to overcome the fear of writing is to simply write every day. Even if it means opening up a Word document and writing 1,000 words of nonsense, it helps a ton. I have done this myself, and can testify to its effectiveness.

We got this!

I will be giving this a try. To be honest, writing just feels new to me somehow. Probably because I don't do it very often. Sure, an email here and there. But I've gotten so used to sending a short text message that I really haven't sat down and actually written something of length.

I really see how your suggestion could be helpful.

Thanks!

No problem, hope it works out for you. If you'd like, you can let me know how it goes.

Wishing you all the best. :)

waian and Daniel,

I was going to suggest a similar thing as writing nonsense in a word document. I pull up notepad or word and write up my day as in the 3rd person. instead of I did it is He did. One is always more comfortable to blog/write when one is confident in their knowledge of each subject. By writing in my notepad, it is not getting published instantly and I can stop writing if I want without being ridiculed for only half of the information or an incomplete blog.
Open as many notepads as you want on any subject you are working on. Use them when you have new ideas to jot down quickly without having to stop your workflow. You can always re-read your draft on the notepad to check for errors or how it sounds to you then to copy and paste the completed draft to blog.
I have written a couple of short stories that are not completed and still on Word. I have written for years and have decided to publish my main fiction story when it is complete. I even got myself a publishing/copywrite and trademark lawyer for this already. I am a serious writer/blogger when I have a topic I like.
If it is too hard to write on the niche you chose, maybe reflect on the niche and see if it is the best candidate for you. It just may be the subject itself that makes it hard for you. If you do not know the subject as much as you would like, anxiety can kick in and cause you to get writer's block. Don't let this happen to you by taking a niche you think will work over a niche that you are passionate about. Being passionate on it will take some of the anxiety away because you are confident in the topic.

Hope I helped you some

Mike

I think this is the simple yet single reason why I haven't written more on these blogs. I definitely have to get over it. Fear is truly the one thing that will stop you from achieveing and the fact is, there is really nothing to fear is there? We are all good enough. I am good enough. Have to keep writing, even when there is nothing to write - microsoft word it is!

This fear is resolved when you do it more and more

Yes, I do believe that. I just need to write, plain and simple.

I've never had a real fear of writing, for me, it's making videos. Still haven't conquered that yet either.

Haven't tried videos yet. Good luck with that!
