How Much Does YouTube Pay?
So, I thought you might be interested in learning about how much YouTube videos can pay, once you are monetized.
You can earn from ads that show up before, during, after, and around your videos on the watch page.
However, getting to the monetization stage itself can take time and effort.
To earn from ads, you need 1000 subscribers, and 4000 watch hours.
Or, if you are only publishing YouTube Shorts, you need 10 million views in any period of 90 days!
Not easy, as you can imagine.
Now, once you have reached the dizzy heights of monetization, how much will you get paid?
Would you be surprised to learn that each channel is different?
It depends on your audience, where they are from, and what niche you are in.
First of all, you need to consider the CPM - this is how much each ad earns per 1000 views.
This can vary between $1 and $13.5.
However, that is not how much you receive!
YouTube takes 45% of the earnings.
Here are said to be some of the lowest-paid niches, remember you only get 55%:
Comedy $1, Fitness $1.60, Cooking $2.5, Beauty $3.
Do be aware that all the figures I quote are approximate, and can vary.
Higher-paid niches:
Technology $7.5, Personal Finance $12, and potentially YOUR niche - How to Make Money $13.5!
So, you can see there is a huge difference.
For example, 1000 views on a comedy channel might only earn $0.55.
Whereas, 1000 views on a making money video could potentially earn around $7.40.
However, as I said, these figures are not set in stone, as that exact information is not easy to find!
And do be aware that I am talking about long-form videos, not Shorts.
Shorts earn around $0.08 per 1000 views, no matter what the niche.

Ads on a YT channel actually has quite a good income potential if your channel gets traction. And the RPM you get can go as high as $50+ for you after YT's cut. That is of course not the average but just to say it can be a lot higher than you mention. Also, one of the biggest things that will affect your earnings is the country your audience is from.
But ads should not be the only goal as a way to earn on YT in my opinion. It can be a great traffic source for a website and for affiliate links and can be a way to diversify.
Just wanted to share a bit extra based on my experiences after having built a channel with more than 300k subscribers.
Scorpion Rock Queen is incredible! She shared the pricing for monetization on YouTube. Thanks for doing this post. It sure did save me the trouble of writing it. I didn't add the pricing in my post last night because I am aware pricing for monetization changes from time to time—great price breakdown by niches. Roope did say that shorts have less monetizing value than long-form videos in one of his expert classes.

I believe a YouTube video has to be at least eight minutes to take advantage of all the ad types.
I might do some AI-automated videos in the future if it doesn’t cut into my guitar fun time. Lol

Thanks Dianne, I don't actually know what monetize is? But will consider it later on once I am established. Atm having some hiccups with adding affiliate links to my page as I am waiting on Awin to send me another link to confirm my email address and to be accepted also into commfac. I hope I can sort these out by the end of the week?
Hi - to monetize means to make money from something.
So, as an example, when you add affiliate links to your website, you will be monetizing it.
Yes I thought it might mean that but wasn't sure.
