Google Update: Which of Your Posts Were Affected?

So, for those of you who have been hit by Google's latest algorithm update, how do you know which of your posts were affected?

This guide shows you how to find out, but don't rush in and change anything just yet!

Let the dust settle first before taking action.

Ok, let's head to Google Search Console, and your initial report is as below.

(This site is 16 months old, with approximately 140 posts, if you were wondering!)

Now, change the date from 3 months to 28 days, and uncheck the box for Total Clicks, we are only looking at Total Impressions, see below.

Just to remind you, an Impression is when Google thinks your post matches the searcher's intent, that it could answer what they are searching for.

Next, click on the Date tab again, and click Compare, and set it to 28 days, and click Apply, as per the screenshot.

You should now see a comparison.

Next, scroll down below the graph, you will see that it is set on the Queries tab, change this to Pages.

And now, on the right of the results, click the words Impressions Difference, to put the figures in order.

This will initially show you the good results!

The posts where the impressions have improved.

So, at the top of these results, you can see that one particular post has had a further 2,320 Impressions than in the previous 28 days.

But that's not what we need to know.

Let's darken the mood a little by clicking on the words Impressions Difference again, and this time it will show the results with the worst losses first.

Yikes, that first post has took a massive hit!

So, that post may need rewriting at some point, but as I said, don't rush in to anything just yet, wait until the end of October as per Partha's post.
