Power of the Written Word: Sharing What's Inside YOU
I'm a story teller. I'm also a poet. People LOVE my stories and poems and I can show you proof of that if you ask for it. But when it came to blogging as a way to make money, my magic was lost...
I became robotic. I became boring. It was a bummer to write blog posts.
But I remember Kyle saying that those who visit that website of yours are not simply 'clicks.' He said "Remember, they are HUMAN beings! And you are there to HELP them. A business isn't nearly as fulfilling for you or useful to your target audience if the focus drifts from being a genuine helper of others to being overly self-serving." He said words to that effect in the training here at WA.
We all know he's a wonderful, ethical leader of bloggers and affiliate marketers. How small is the percentage of those who embrace the light side of affiliate marketing when compared to those who embrace the dark side of it. Promoting any old piece of rubbish because, hey! There's a commission in it for ME!!!
But the glory of Wealthy Affiliate is that it's Big, Successful and to my knowledge has always been 100% ETHICAL!!
Okay, you know what? I will show you some proof that my stories rock! Hahaha. It will go towards making my point, I promise!
Here we go. These are some of many messages from my teenage niece and my sister. Also, a friend sent an email saying he loved how the chapters ended on cliff hangers. Plus there's been others who reacted very positively. But for now, I'll show you the most expressive reactions.
Marketers I don't like
There's big people out there like John Crestani and Jono Armstrong, plus you can be sure there's a list of others whom I don't like. Sorry if that's too personal. I don't like their methods, but if your methods are shady, then what does that say about you as a person?
Among many other shady things, John Crestani (a popular multi-millionaire internet marketer) tells his students to promote his $997 course to their family and friends on social media and say 'Hey! here's a cool course that taught me how to make money online!" Then spam your link to people close to you. (As if they're going to click on the link and blow a grand just because you left a link on Fb). Do this even if you have made ZERO pennies online in your entire life so far. Lie to friends and family in other words.
And Jono Armstrong (would you believe it?) openly admitted in a YouTube video and in his pricey course, Ministry of Freedom (which I neither bought nor recommend to others) that he sells, and I quote "dog crap" to newbies. You know, all that trash you find on WarriorPlus? DFY, Copy-Paste money systems, Get-rich-quick schemes.... etc.
Yeah, he says just sell it to them anyway. Put these products in a super POSITIVE light. His excuse for this? Well, he says he's just giving customers what they want, what they're looking for and what they're in the market for and these are people who will buy get-rich-quick schemes anyway, no matter who's pitching these misleading offers them.
What I want to see more of
Adam Enfroy makes tons of cash with his PC and internet connection but he is another example of someone who said that making money online wasn't the ultimate reward of his efforts at online business. No, for him it was much more rewarding to know that he had helped a struggling fellow man THROUGH his online business. Yes, it's a business and the point is to make money. But an online business becomes a massive part of your life. It becomes part of you.
So guess what?
An online business ISN'T just about the money. At least, I really don't think it should be. Hey, a business is a service!!
We all like a business we can trust. And NONE of us like pushy salespeople who just don't give the impression that they give a rat about our true interests and needs.
So what's this got to do with the power of writing?
What I'm trying to say is that I believe money and success can be one hell of a distraction for those who have cultivated or should be cultivating the wonderful art of writing.
The way you write is never going to be the way I write. And the way I write is never going to be how you write.
But my writing will improve if I stop getting distracted and keep WRITING! The very same goes for YOU and you know it, I'm sure.
But look, when there's money involved, we really can fall into a kind of detachment from writing and compromise our precious potential to be REALLY good writers.
Blogging is a business that leverages WRITING. Writing is so powerful that many, many people say it's even better than a high budget movie. Text may look boring until you start reading and get absorbed in it. Same with writing. The idea of writing can sometimes seem a bit like having to put the bins out on a Friday. But actually doing it can actually make the world disappear. You can get absorbed both as a writer and as a reader.
That's where you want to be and I'm happy to say I'm just about there myself.
Before, it was hassle because I was too anxious about money, word count and SEO. Sorry, but that shouldn't be allowed to stifle the authentic written expression of the unique YOU in my opinion. By all means, do keyword research as well as you know how but aim to get to a place where you are COMFORTABLE and ABSORBED while behind your computer screen and at your keyboard. The day you truly achieve that will be the death blow to failure. Your work will have become your greatest passion.
With me, it was a bummer to write blog posts and the result was a DISMAL FAILURE!
Google indirectly told me that my website sucked and I had to face facts.
But I didn't wanna give up...
I was never going to get anywhere in this mysterious game if I didn't love it. Love writing I mean. I think that's the real key here.
Now that I like it and forget for now about money, I am seeing an increase in traffic and the odd sale. But I'm not going to let stats distract me. I want my writing passion to remain in tact and not be compromised by the fact that blogging is simultaneously a business that can make me passive income.

Hello Dominic,
Your post is outstanding, I appreciate your emphasis on having a genuine passion for writing rather than solely pursuing it for money.
I firmly believe that as you lay a strong foundation and dedicate yourself to your writing the financial rewards will naturally follow in time.
