I was Robbed!

I have not been on WA in some time due to some personal issues. I decided to get out my trusty notebook today and get back to work. So I logged on and did some reading and looking around, then I decided to get some grocery shopping done.

When I came back, I discovered my house had been broken into! It seems like I interrupted the robbers as they did not get much. They did take my trusty notebook though, this notebook contains all my passwords for my website, by affiliate sites and such. I am currently trying to change all my logins, but its hard to remember what I had in there.

There were no banking or paypal details in that book, so at least I am safe there, but I changed those passwords anyway.

Man some people sure suck!

Also sorry to hear of your misfortune. Terrible feeling of being violated.
I echo Craig's (Labman) endorsement of LastPass. I have used the free version for 6-9 months and it is amazing. No more passwords to remember - okay the 1 LastPass master password. I like the auto-login feature.
There are other secure password solutions, I'm sure just as good, maybe better. I have no experience with any others. I've been pleased with LastPass.

Sorry to hear about that Delawareturtlegirl, yeah some people really do suck. But your friends here support you. Labman mentioned Lastpass for passwords another program that I use is Roboform. It has been a lifesaver for me at times. Good luck to you.

Thanks for all the kind replies! There has been no news from the police as of yet.

My best guess regarding my notebook, is that they saw a bunch of passwords and hoped that there was some banking passwords or such in there.
I know that I did have my original pay pal password in there, but I had changed it and memorized it.

I did have a couple old bills sitting in folder of the book, I know that my 2012 property tax bill was in there, I can remember what else, hopefully nothing too revealing... It had been a while since I looked at the book.

You will want to make sure that your credit reports don't show any odd activity. Information such as you mentioned may be a way for people to steal your identity.
It pays to stay on top of it.

Brand new to WA but this is just goofy - people stealing a portfolio containing information they probably couldn't use if they tried. And stuff not tradable or sellable for cash.
Really sorry. And yet the advice on this string has been excellent due to this unfortunate event. Thanks for sharing as I also track such information like passwords with less care than I should. Good wake up for me. Best luck to you solving this.

Wow!... that really does suck. I used to keep all my logins and passwords written in a word document and tacked up on the wall next to my desk. One day it occurred to me that if someone were to get their greedy little hands on it I'd be in some deep doodoo. I probably had about 40-50 logins/passwords at the time. I now have 136 lines of logins.

So one day I decided to build a password protected spreadsheet that included the following:

Account
Username
Password
Email Address
Website (hyperlinked to the login page) - (this is a nice shortcut and time saver)
Information and Notes column (for things like when was the last time/date that I changed my password etc.)

This has served me well for a few years now. It's a good idea to save a copy on a flash drive as well, in case you ever have a hard drive crash. That would be tragic trying to remember 136 logins.

Hope that helps in the future.

Cheers,
Mike the Aviator

Some people do suck and I am sorry to hear about this! There is nothing more hurtful than having your stuff that you worked hard for stolen from you and I hope they catch the individual(s) that did this.

Hope you get your passwords sorted out :)

The robbers only got a few DVD's and WII games I had sitting on top of the TV stand. They also got the drawers to my jewelry box, left the box but took the drawers, my in-laws made that jewelry box for me too.
They police believe that I interrupted the robbery, one good thing about driving an old and loud Jeep I guess. The TV stand was pulled out, like they were about to disconnect the wires, but they bolted out the un-used front door when I pulled in the driveway to come in the back door.
At least my super old laptop is OK and I can still do some work.

You will probably want to check into Last Pass. This is an online password management system. You will only need to keep track of one password after this. You can remember one can't you.

Thanks I will look into that. I can remember quite a few passwords. Sometimes, especially when dealing with multiple affiliate sites and websites and social media accounts, the passwords can add up. I just don't get why they would take my note book.

I was robbed 2 years ago. Luckily I owned nothing much, but they did get my computer. Most thieves like that are not very computer savvy and just looking to sell the computer so you'll probably be safe.

I remember that after just getting robbed, every time I came home for a few months after the fact I always expected to see the place empty again. It was such a relief I never got robbed again!

Sorry to hear that, hope the police catch the thieves soon.
