An incredible event
Hi All,
Well, I have been out of WA action for two months because I had the honour to host the Governor-General of Australia (similar to the American President) in our tiny country town for three hours.It was a privilege to represent our community and region. My wife and I were with them at all times and the protocol was amazing. I was also the Chair of the organising committee with nine sub -committees creating the event in our town of 150 people.
It was a massive series of events with historical re-enactments, a huge parade which the Governor-General led, Pony Club displays , a memorabilia tent and a great producer's fair celebrating our regional artisans, producers, food and musicians. Our town swelled to four thousand people and we received national news coverage on the ABC network. We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day and all our organisation resulted in a truly memorable day
This event absorbed all my surplus time and I had to leave WA until it was over
My time away from WA has allowed for reflection and to condense my ideas. I will be changing direction focusing more on my local region and Australia rather than a worldly perspective. We used social media very effectively and I glimpsed at its power to communicate beyond established systems.

His name is Sir Peter John Cosgrove and he is the Queen's representative in Australia and is appointed by the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister.
He has formal presidency over the Federal Executive Council and is Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force, as well as viceregal representative in the Australian Capital Territory. The functions of the Governor-General include appointing ministers, judges and ambassadors, giving royal assent to legislation passed by Parliament, issuing writs for election, and bestowing Australian honours.
He maintains political neutrality. Is that what your President does?
Yes thats exactly what HE is, and is the Head of State. Australia has a Westminster system.HE has the authority to dissolve the government as happened in 1975 . True, HE ( His Excellency) is to be politically neutral, and is appointed by the Federal government.HE is the vice regal representatve to all all Australians not just the ACT.
To be sure HE is very different to the USA President however the honour to host HE in our region is not diminished by their different roles.
The last time HE was in our region was 100 years ago and our event re-enacted that occasion.
