As BIG as a bus

Just a little one from me today.

I always marvel at Jeffrey Brown’s photos of the streets where he lives – Kansas I think. The roadways are so incredibly wide for “just ordinary” streets.

Over here in the UK we would call them Airfields. Crikey, they’re the size of runways.

So just to let you know what I think is ordinary I have posted a couple of snaps of my city centre street - the High Street.

Not a village or a town – a city. And this is the centre of the city, the hustling and bustling centre of the Universe, with the market in the background and beyond that the Palace and Cathedral.

Just big enough for one bus at a time, in fact, one car at a time. If someone parks outside the newsagents while they get themselves a packet of ciggies, the whole of the High Street is blocked. The City of Wells grinds to a standstill.

And yes, that is water running down both sides of the roadway. A few centuries ago we were given the right to free water from the well pools and the Bishop diverted water into the city for the peasants – which probably included my great-great-great grand daddy. I’ll bet he was a devil when he was a lad.

Anyway folks, enjoy the streets of Wells City.

Ciao for now.

I do recall those small high streets and even smaller back roads from back in the day Bux!

But Wells is a special place.. the smallest "city" in the UK if I am not mistaken with a population of around 10-12 thousand inhabitants... but the Cathedral there is spectacular!

Speak soon buddy! :-)

Your memory is perfect Nick. I can see the Cathedral from my office and St Cuthbert's from the bedroom.
I particularly like listening to the hour bells through the night and Friday evening bell ringing (Campanology).
There is one very (very) narrow road that is arrow straight for over two miles. It's fun when you get cyclists that won't move out of the way. I'll do a photo sometime soon.
Take care Nick

Happy to hear that my memory isn't completely shot yet Bux!

I bet that is fun with the cyclists and I'll keep a look out for the next photos!

Take care yourself buddy!

Hopefully I will have good reason to go down the Drove tomorrow. I'll take some photos, bound to see some cyclists.

Interesting look Bux!

Thanks for showing your photo of the city. :)

Myra

Thanks Myra. That's my little city. You could fit it in a tea cup.
Keep aiming high my friend.
Bux

Thanks for the look into your home city, Bux! It's fascinating!
I hope more folks pick up on this trend.
I too love Jeff's pictures of Kansas!

Stay well and thrive!

Al

Thank you Al. Appreciated. Yes it would be good to see where our comrades in keyboards call home.

How fun to see the pictures of where you live! I've been to the UK several times, and remember those narrow streets, which were wide enough centuries ago, but definitely a challenge now!

Most streets where I live are at least 3-4 lanes wide. It's quite different here in Colorado.

Four lanes wide. I would need GPS just to cross the road.
Keep safe.

Wow, Bux! You were right, my friend! Still a beautiful street and sity though! Thanks for the comparison. I guess there might have been one time when I was forced to dodge some minor "air traffic"!

Jeff

Thanks Jeff, that made me smile.
Bux

You're very welcome, Bux, and this post made me smile, my friend! Best continued success in your endeavors!
