How Do You Eat an Elephant?
Last year I fulfilled one of my dreams: to be on a TV show!
I live on the coast of North Carolina where TONS of shows and movies are filmed. So, this was something I just had to do!
I have tons of freedom with my schedule since quitting my management job June 19th, 2012, so time wasn't an issue, I just needed to find the right project. Finally I found the part I wanted to play, on Fox's show called Sleepy Hollow. It sounded fun.
I applied and I got it! (I was an extra, but I did get some good screen time!). To be honest, it was a lot of waiting, and standing, and sitting, and EATING. It was quite a time. I probably won't ever do it again. I mean, it did get boring at times.
These people were really great to meet!
But, it was my dream, and hey, it was cool! I remember on the second day (I was on set for 4 days) the director took a break and sat down right next to me (which shocked me, I was just an extra!).
I complimented him on the job he was doing. He smiled, and said there was a LONG way to go. A lot needed to be done. I nodded, not knowing what to say. Then he turned to me and asked me a question I will never forget. He asked me, "How do you eat an elephant?"
I had no idea what he was talking about. The set smelled like drugs, so maybe he was on some, who knows?
After I admitted I had no idea, he smiled and said, "One bite at a time".
I never forgot that. There were a MILLION things that needed to be done, he was having to direct an episode that was costing Fox over 2 MILLION DOLLARS. And how did he approach that task?
One bite at a time. You can't take it on all at once. All you have to do is just take on that next bite.
Many people feel overwhelmed when they start learning affiliate marketing, and that's ok. You will never learn everything at once. Try to learn just 1 thing at a time.
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
How do you learn affiliate marketing? One bite at a time.
If you ever feel overwhelmed, just take a deep breath, and then take that next bite.
Then you are one step closer to your goal.

Oh my goodness! I love it. I played it out in my head in slow motion pretending everyone was on drugs and it was twice as funny. Great blog, and congrats on fulfilling one of your dreams!
Thanks! Haha. Yeah, part of me felt like the cops would bust out of nowhere and just arrest everyone on set. haha.
That's how I'm working on my website -- one step at a time. I'm really slow at writing but I do a bit every day & one day 'll be finished. You always make it to the end if you don't quit.
That is a very good way to approach things, which helps to keep things in perspective.
Very cool that you were on set, I usually try to catch the new episodes which is a whole different look at how Sleepy Hollow and how it was written originally. I can see where he was coming from as well. Thank you for sharing this. :))
What an amusing analogy. I feel overwhelmed just thinking about proceeding with WA sometimes, but your post makes me feel a little better (and less stressed) about it. Good way to explain it. Thanks for sharing!
Great advice Dan, if you ever feel overwhelmed by any big trouble, you just have to divide it in small pieces and fix each piece at a time. The same happens with goals, if you have a huge goal, like I don't know "I want to be a millionaire", divide your goal in smaller goals and go for them each one at a time.
Good philosophy. I bite at a time, and in life, one day at a time. I think my brain exploded today. Overload....overload...overload.
Great blog.
Haha.. this was popular at work. I don't eat an elephant. I eat a frog. The biggest and the ugliest one first. :))
