Hey guys,

I am reviewing the data of google analytics while I am a bit confused about " direct" and " referals", what's the difference, speaking of the audience sources?

Hi Daisy,

Organic is pretty much someone typing your keyword into their search engine and finding your website.

Direct is a site that you are fimiliar with and use often, like Amazon. If the URL is hard to remember, like your patient portal for your medical data then you will have it bookmarked in your web browser.

Referral is getting to your final website destination indirectly, like by clicking on an external link from someone else's web site post.

Social is someone finding your site through one of the social channels.

All stuff I'm sure you are already quite familiar with. :-)

Thanks for asking this question.

hey hi Daisy ....

Excellent question and all questions as you know are good ones here ...

Yes, it takes a wee bit to learn everything about G.A. ... and actually, instead of me, possibly 'mangling the answer', Jay did up a month's series of webinars on this very topic .....

here's a link to reading the data .... it does come up now and then and keeping in mind, it's only meaningful if one's website is 'mature' and is presenting traffic ... if it's a beginning site, then, it's too early to be too concerned reading G.A. ...

enjoy it all .... you're doing great! .... all the best .... :)

Thanks for this answering this question

*** hi Tracey! .... you're most welcome and glad to know that you've derived some helpful benefit from the answer -- yes, lots of learning, to do, and to build here as well ....

enjoy it all, cheerio ... :) ***

Thanks, Keisha for pointing to Jay's course.

Have a great one thanks again

I think it is a difference between those who came to your site through organic search and those who were referred to it from somewhere (WA, social, other sites, etc)
But, I'd also like to see an answer from someone more experienced and check whether I'm right or no.

Hi Daisy,

I found this article on the difference in traffic sources in google analytics. Hope it helps...
