The Brothers

There are twin brothers at my school. I think maybe they are from someplace like Jamaica. I detect a little something in their speech. Their names are a bit unusual, too.

They happen to be in the same classroom in second grade, which is not how things are usually done, so it may be something that the parents requested.

Everybody loves these boys, as they are very sweet and funny. One seems to be much higher academically than the other, which is curious, being that they are identical twins. I can't always immediately tell the difference in them, but then I'll catch a shine in the one twin's eye, or a smile and a kind of knowing look, and I realize which one he is.

I like them both, though, and I like to kid around with them. They seem to think I am amusing, and they laugh at the things I say, and smile and say hello whenever they see me.

That's why it was so unusual a couple of days ago, when one of the boys passed me on the sidewalk without a word. I said hello, but he went on by me like I was the Invisible Man. When I checked in the classroom later, I found out why, because all the kids were crammed together on one side of the class.

"What's going on?" I asked.

They informed me that one of the brothers had thrown up "all over the place," and that they were "not going over there." I took a look, and it was obvious that custodians had already been on the scene. Both his desk and the floor around it looked sparkling clean.

"It's O.K.," I said, "The custodian cleaned and sanitized it. It's safe to return to your seats!"

I now realized why the one twin had walked by me like a zombie earlier. He had just thrown up, and was on his way to the clinic, soon to be picked up by a parent. He was not in the mood for kidding around, or even exchanging standard pleasantries.

Both he and his brother have now been absent for three days, and I must admit I am missing seeing them. The other brother either got the bug also, or maybe the parents just prefer keeping them together, like they are in the classroom.

Better to stay home and get well, however, and make sure you are no longer contagious.

That's not something you want going through the entire class!

If the twin boys you are speaking about are the ones in the photo above Rick, they are beautiful looking boys and I really would not like to have to tell them apart.

Being the mum of 20 year old twins now I am glad that they were not identical and they looking nothing even like each other. Gavin is red headed and Euan is dark headed.

It sounds like they probably both took the bug and they certainly are better being at home getting better and not passing anything on to anyone else. I hope you never picked up the bug either though. xxxx

I didn't get it, Cheryl, and two of my favorite kids are back and healthy! :)

So pleased to hear that Rick and nice to know that both boys are back at school and well again. xxx

Great storytelling Rick.
The boys do seem to have much personality from the pic alone.

I hope they are back to school soon and in good health.

One thing that stood out for me is that we can't be quick to come down on people if they are suddenly acting strangely.
There may be a good reason for their actions at the time.
The poor little guy was just sick and not in the mood.

Great post Rick
David

Thanks, David. I figure they'll both be back on Monday.

You did a good job with the descriptions in your story. I could picture the gleam in the eye, the look on the face, the sparkling clean desk and floor, the children all gathered to one side of the classroom.

Thank you, Anita. :)

You're welcome! Have a great weekend!

Well, now it's Monday here, but I hope you had a great weekend, Anita! :)

I did, thank you!

Great picture...you can tell they are just full of attitude! Hope they return soon.
Debbie

Me too, Deb-I'm missing them! :)

It looked like they're conjoined Rick 2 hands in the same pocket!

Good point, Mike!

Good evening Rick,

That is a really nice photo. The title of your post reminded me of a fantastic film,The Brothers. A beautiful animal film telling the story of 2 baby tigers which are separated and then, later on in life meet again.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Hi Taetske. I've not seen the movie, but it sounds interesting! :)

An other favorite animal film is The Bear. amazing nature and animals.

I like nature films. :)

What cute guys! Sorry that one got sick.
I bet it's really hard to tell one from another, and in the near future they will use it to their advantage.

Twins can play a lot of tricks on people, but on that day, that sure wasn't their inclination, Vera. :)

Sure not...Poor guy.
Is the one who is on the left hand side of the picture "higher academically", as you put it?:)

That's not the actual boys from the school, just a picture I used for the post. I felt it would be inappropriate to use their actual photos. :)

Oh,right.:))
