Monetizing commentary

So I posted a street article a few weeks ago. It was alright. I landed about 500 hits which for a first I didn't think was too terrible. I know backlinking within them is important so I did do that. However, I find that it is difficult to organicly back link to my site within a street article without compromising the integrity of the article itself.

I am also kind of struggling now because I posted a second one a couple days ago and it landed over 3000 hits in two days, buy the clickthroughs back to my site are minimal. I am wondering if it is worth it to post street articles at all or just keep them on my site. It is kind of painful because I haven't landed more than 2k hits on my site total and the page views on my street article just keep rising.

I know I am really still so new to this and I will learn with time. I just can't seem to stop writing long editorials that really can generate short term traffic, but don't generate sales. I hope I can figure out a formula for success soon.

Don't forget to do as much cross-linking as you reasonably can within your own site posts. Look at wiki, that "massive crosslinking" example. Link to older posts/pages that are relevant. Link from out of date posts to your newer stuff.

Wow! In all honesty, I want to know how you got those amazing numbers!
I just passed the 300 hit mark on an article I posted several months ago... (or was it a year?)
Keep writing content on your website as that is really what you want to focus on. Once you've got quality content there and your ranking is going well, think about submitting another article or two to SA... Make sure that the article is relevant to your website...

I wrote about a topic of controversy concerning a number of games and posted them on subreddits that were related to the article.

Sounds great!
Keep that up and you'll do awesome :)

Posting to SA has been brought up many times lately. People do have different opinions. Me (personally) I'd rather concentrate on my site rather than writing articles. Kyle stated to initially put 90% into your site and 10% article (but I believe that has changed) I no some members have never written an article and are doing fine in the rankings.

Here's Carson's definitive answer: "Once you have one or two articles on Street Articles (or another directory), focus 100% on your website. You do not need to have a ton of articles these days as your website will rank very well as you begin to publish content on it regularly." :) Rich.

Duly noted. I will definitely not make this mistake again then.
