Ya just can't rush good barbeque!

In San Antonio, Texas, where I live, barbeque is akin to a religion.

It's right up there with high school football, Astros & Rangers baseball, and the Cowboys (regardless of how their season ends ;-) )

And yes, there really are longhorn cattle and cowboys to go with them!

And no, barbeque is not what's on the grill, sorry!! Real barbeque

is secret spices in rubs, hours just letting those beautiful rubs and marinades marry the meat.

It's just the right wood in the smoker. It is the fire at the right temperature, placed ever so carefully in the smoke box, with wood at the ready to keep the fire at just the right temperature.

And it takes TIME! Lots of time!

And, if your house is like mine, more than a few brewskies are sacrified in the process.

One of our neighbors has a smoker that is as large

as his truck. It's massive!!!!!!! These guys compete and they're good!!!

Rumor has it, WA's very own ExpatMark is a championship calibur barbeque master! Oh, would that be a party!!!!

Barbeque championships are awesome! Oh, to be a judge for those events!!! Ribs, both pork & beef, brisket, chicken, sausage, and whole hog are on the menu with sides, sauces and deserts that are to die for.

That would be pretty much close to heaven!

Secret recipe for barbeque success,

secret recipe rub, preparation, knowledge, smoking it low and slow, and lots and LOTS of time!

Sounds kinda like the recipe for building a business in WA!

Specific knowledge, techniques, time, attention and effort.

But unlike our barbeque friends, we share our knowledge, experience, and secrets. In a barbeque competition, there is one winner, although multiple classes with one overall winner.

In WA, we can all win! How absolutely cool is that? Not only can we all win, but each of us is sincerely glad to hear of the success of others and is happy to pay it forward however they can. You know that doesn't happen at your j.o.b. (just over broke).

I am thrilled to learn that a WA member has earned over $1m over the past 10 years. That's absolutely fantastic! I love hearing that folks have made their first sale or their second. I love hearing that Google has favored a site or a post. That's progress - rock on!

I don't care that I haven't yet. Well, yeah, I care, but I know my turn will come. I'm not worried about it too much.

So, just like ya just can't rush good barbeque, ya can't rush success at WA either. It takes time, attention, effort, and paying attention to the secrets of the business. Time, time, and time.

But ya gotta tend the fire. Ya gotta keep researching, writing, and posting. Ya gotta do the lessons. Hang out with your friends! Have a beer, coffee, tea, adult beverage - whatever floats your boat! Get comfortable. Learn your way around. Make some more great friends. Write another post. Read another blog. Have a great time!

I'm gonna go have some brisket for dinner.

Y'all have a great evening!

Christine

Bbq's are fun and my wife makes the best Maui ribs hands down when we have a summer bbq.in our backyard ,this is according to many friends reviews😜👌

We also have a lot of veggies for some of our vegetarian friends.
They do say that too much meat can be bad for us but a good bbq is hard to beat!
Wow ! A million dollars that is awesome what a goal to strive for.😎👌
Good motivating post!!!

Can you send us all some of that great looking food? I wish I had a neighbor like that as well. I think I would be outside all day just waiting to be the tester of the food. Great post and you will get those sales soon with all the hard work and effort you are putting into your business.
All the best finding that first sale

Sure! I'd be happy to deliver to you, Doug!!! LOL! It's always great to hear from you. Thanks for taking time to read this post and leave a note.

Christine

I am gonna hold you to that then. I wonder if you can keep it warm from there all the way to Wisconsin.

Brilliant analogy in this post Christine. It’s breakfast time and mid winter here as I write but I’m so looking forward to getting the bbq out in a few months time.
As you say - there is prep time required for excellent results in both bbq and business life. Rushing either leads to bad results 😀

Thanks
Dave

Austin TX here! Great post!
We just picked up a pellet grill. Wanting to slow smoke some ribs. However, the controller went out. Called the manufacturer and a new controller came in last week. Never used a pellet grill b4. This will be fun! I see a post a coming.

Thanks for checking in. I haven't used a pellet grill either. You'll have to let me know whatcha think about it. We have a good old Char grill smoker / grill with two cooking chambers and the smoker box. Mike loves it. We've been too busy and Mike's been working out of town, so the smoker doesn't get too much action these days, but it's nice when we can. Austin - home of Salt Lick - great BBQ!!!!

I'll be looking for that post!!!

Christine

You got it! I'll take pics and get neighbor reviews!
Yes, we love us some Salt Lick BBQ!

I'll install the new controller int he pit on Sat.

It might not have been smoked but it did take all day. The brisket turned out pretty well. Hard to tell though, the adults in the house never made it to the table! My husband and daughters were stationed around the sliced brisket at the kitchen island, eating with their fingers and dredging the slices through the jus. I think they stopped long enough to grab a slice or two of bread to dip into the jus as well. Our 'manny', Thomas stopped by to drop something off so he had dinner with us and said it was better than Rudy's - which we love in our house. I'll take it all as a compliment.

The recipe is Tom Perini's. You can find it on Food Network's recipe's, I think. A friend gave it to me.

Enjoy!!! C
