Coming in Hot!
Good Morning and Happy Sunday and a Very Happy to all the Mothers out there! Is Mother's Day a world wide holiday or just in the states? I should google that...lol.
Today's Idiom is.....
"Hand Over Fist"
MEANING:
The idiom "hand over fist" means to make rapid progress, especially in terms of financial gain or success. It implies that someone is gaining or earning something quickly and continuously. So, when someone is said to be making money hand over fist, it means they are earning money rapidly and consistently. Similarly, if a business is growing hand over fist, it means it's expanding rapidly and making significant progress.
Essentially, it denotes a situation of steady, and often swift, advancement or accumulation.
ORIGIN:
Today's Idiom likely originates from nautical terminology.
In sailing, to haul in a rope hand over hand means to pull it in rapidly, with one hand after the other, in a continuous motion. The term "fist" in this context refers to the clenched hand, particularly when grasping a rope or line. When sailors were pulling in a line quickly and continuously, they were said to be making progress rapidly, which eventually led to the phrase "hand over fist" being used metaphorically to describe any situation of rapid and continuous advancement or accumulation, especially in terms of making money or gaining success.
See, even on a Sunday I don't forget about you guys....lol.
Thanks and Have a Great Day!

I do love to use this expression Chuck, appreciate you sharing its origins with us!
Have a fantastic Mother's day my friend! :-)
I think it's different in different parts of the world, but today is Mother's Day here in Australia.
I believe it was created by Anna Jarvis in 1907. But she later repudiated it because of the commercialism.
