About CLPeterson
Joined April 2017
Ok - I am a red headed lady who's starting to gray. A one-time prosecuting attorney who has now been out of the work scene for over 20 years due to health issues.

My adult son has just come back to live with my husband and I. He has his own issues as he is high-functioning autistic. My son, not my husband.

I am looking for guidance on building an online business as my attempts have not been successful. But we are also starting a farm related ministry, revolving around teaching my son and others like him. A way for Adults with autism to become self-sufficient. A true grass-roots movement ;)

And I am also looking for help in setting up the online part of a non-profit organization.

The talon image is for my son. He is interested in setting up an online website where he reviews game software. I don't know if there is a way to make money on that niche, but it would be sweet if he could. And being the protective Mother - I am checking Wealthy Affiliate to see if it is the answer for all of our issues.

Hi Brandon ! I worked on some niche research yesterday then talked with Kyle. He suggested that when starting out that I focus on one website in the beginning. I thought about it overnight & think he's right. So I've decided to go with my Avon website. I already have traffic there, and my pinterest acct (which gets about 500k hits a month (no I didn't make an error) points to this account. So I thought I would try to put some ads. I thought about what you said about Avon's rules. So I've decided to look for tools that would make it easier for cowgirls to put on their makeup at the rodeos. Trust me when I tell you the bathrooms are usually horrendous. And also I am looking for affiliate programs for Cowgirl fashion as that is an extremely popular board on my pinterest account. My question to you since I haven't got that far yet -- since I am new do I stick with companies who already have affiliate programs. Or is it ok to reach out to a company that has great western clothing, but there isn't anything on their website about an affiliate program?

I think either approach is good, but I would check with some of the major affiliate networks first to see who is already offering programs, such as:

awin.com
shareasale.com
cj.com
rakuten.com

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Hi Kyle

I currently have 3 online projects -- my Avon Fan page, our FARM page, and my husband's Circuit Ridr page. After doing some quick research I am gearing our Avon page towards cowgirls. I've been told that this is NOT a market that Avon has reached out to in the past. So I am thinking cowgirl clothing as that has gone very well on my Pinterest acct. I also found a great makeup mirror on Amazon because it is very hard to put your makeup on in a horse trailer with no mirror. On our Farm page, I was thinking about Autism awareness products (as our farm will be for developmentally disabled people), there are some great affiliate programs in farming and prepping could also work nicely in here. Circuit Rider is harder as it is geared for an online ministry, but I was thinking Christian books & supplies, as well as cowboy clothing. What do you think?

Sounds like you are very creative with your thinking here Cindy which his great!

Focus on just ONE website and create success with that before diversifying and creating multiple niche websites.

It only takes ONE website in one niche to be very successful online. I usually find that folks that try to do too much at once (focus on several niche websites) end up in a state of mediocrity because it can be overwhelming and you don't really ever become the expert in just one niche.

It is the experts (specialists) that create long term, successful businesses in any niche.

Thanks Kyle for the heads up. You are right about being new and getting overwhelmed. I've decided to go with my Avon website. I already have traffic there, and my pinterest acct (which gets about 500k hits a month (no I didn't make an error) points to this account. So I thought I would try to put some ads. And see how that goes. It will give me the experience that I need. My other sites are actually where I have more real life experience, but they aren't up and running yet like my Avon site. I did have a question, though, since I am new do I stick with companies who already have affiliate programs. Or is it ok to reach out to a company that has great western clothing, but there isn't anything on their website about an affiliate program? I know that's probably in the later training, but while doing my research I found an awesome store. :)

The key when building a business online (or offline) is building a focused audience and brand through helping people within a certain niche. It is very difficult to make a product/service your niche and that is the reason people that are within MLM don't actually have a business, they are reliant on the MLM itself versus their own brand/foundation.

You are going to learn how to properly build a business online here at WA in any niche. Within that respective niche, you are going to be able to promote many different products (Avon products included). This will position you for much longer term success and a great deal of long term sustainability with your business.

If you can help people, you can create a long term business doing so.

Thanks Attila for your kind words -- my immediate future goal is to make more $ than I spend. Had a huge loss in my business last year (huge for me). So would love to actually be able to cover expenses. :)
