Local sales in free fall
In the company for the first time and after many years local sales showed a decrease month after month.
Was working in the area of human resources.
After a meeting with the managers they need me to find a replacement for my position. A new form of sale sought and export appears, tried to reverse the situation.
I would have to make a descriptive brochure telling the whole history of the company.
Year 1987 the fax moved the telex as a means of data transmission.
An important exhibition called the Motor Show was held in Brazil in the city of Sao Paulo.
It was desired to take advantage to know and establish direct contact with local manufacturers in the industry.
I had all the documentation ready and was already flying it was my first business trip.
Was staying at a hotel near the fair, which was 3 days long. In those days I walked a lot and showed up at several stands, talking and leaving my brochures.
Was always very well attended was making direct visits to factories once the exhibition was over.
I focused on discovering companies with similar characteristics to ours.
Stayed at the hotel for 2 more days due to the direct visits I made to different manufacturers.
I returned happily to my land telling the managers all the experience lived in my trip.
Was building with the help of a person the new foreign trade department. I took several related short courses, also having a personal professional adviser.
Was getting ready, when after a year of my trip to Brazil they contact me directly. They asked us to make a quotation for the complete tooling front panel of the Ford Escort year 86 . Please send it as soon as possible.
They need us to build it in record time 4 months. We passed the value quickly they accepted it we also agreed all the payment terms.
The delivery of the tooling finally took us 6 months. We had to import a machine from Spain, to speed up the processes. We work day, afternoon and night to meet.
We can finally able to reverse the trend now we had an extraordinary external market on the rise.
I had to travel to export, today I met Wealthy Affiliate searching from my computer.
Change everything today, I am learning to sell with them watching videos from my own home. I feel much better generating income and above all being independent ... I love it!

The paradigm has shifted over the last 30+ years...In 1986 I was a young pup (but somewhat seasoned) in the military and over half-way to the magic "20 years" point (when you were eligible to retire with 50% of your salary)...
I remember well also that was the beginning of the end of secretaries. They were replaced with automation electric typewriters and eventually the early computers...The last secretary I had was in 1989...
I remember very well explaining to the area managers a few years later how they all needed to get used to a new thing called email, that it was going to replace hard copies and faxes. They all kind of disbelieved it, but that came, of course...
Yet years later (about 25 years ago) we had a contracting team carrying around 6 massive boxes that when put together and connected with other locations that had the same we did video conference calls...
Unheard of outside the military, I was able to give presentations from the battlefront, and people in Europe, the USA and elsewhere could watch love as I did so...
Of course, the pace has picked up faster over the last 20 years and the one constant has been the change. As a civilian now for 20 years, it has impacted the work, the home life, and the entertainment areas of our lives - in short, every aspect.
The things we have now and use now and do now were not even thought possible so many years ago, yet they are here. It is for us to adapt and survive (and hopefully thrive) with these changes..,
The jobs these days are ones where remote work is possible and preferable in many cases. The power of the internet has made that possible and indeed, desirable for me...
Old people like me can continue to be productive, to build new things, to go places that my father did not hope to (he was a dreamer and loved new things too) which I find fascinating...
All the jobs and experience can nonetheless come into play as we go about this new way to operate a business, but the interaction with others has dropped off...
If there is one thing that I perhaps miss but do not miss (love/hate thing) it is that. The young kids do not know what they have missed in a lot of cases these days...
Thanks for telling us a bit about your story, it sounds like you had some very good and exciting times...You are right, we are making money from our homes these days...What a luxury that is!

It is true that online work is much simpler to create and today many companies do not even bother to create a shop or a local business to find customers. This is cheaper and faster for these entrepreneurs. But human contact will always exist very happily!

This is the reality of our time. A lot of the businesses are being done online these days. This is the way to go - online!
Local business, especially shops, is in free fall partly due to working of women. Many shop online now. Easier, faster and greater choice.
Nothing will stop that.
