Japan’s Unique Flavors of Soda
I don't drink soda very much, but when I do it's usually beacuse I found a new flavor and I want to try it. Coke and Pepsi are very competitive especially here in japan, and to spice that competition up they come out with different limited edition flavors.
Here are some that I have seen here from the past few years.
CocaCola Clear
I found this CocaCola Clear in a vending machine at my local mall. It costed me ¥160 (a little over a dollar) which is the standard price for soda from vending machines, it would be cheaper to buy it at the supermarket though.
From what I remember it tasted exactly like regular coke but more lemony, and the carbonation was very strong.
Pepsi Halloween Cola
I bought this soda at the supermarket but I don't remember the price. Pepsi and Coke release these limited edition flavors randomly at limited quantities, so when I see one I buy it immediately as they run out very quickly.
This soda was extremely sweet, with a bubblegum like taste.
Pepsi Christmas Cola
Like with the Halloween Cola, I got this at the supermarket. I remember that it tasted like strawberry, its unique but I wouldn't want to taste it ever again.
This is my least favorite out of all the flavor from Pepsi, that I have tasted. My least favorite from Coke is the Orange Vanilla flavor, as it tasted like medicine.
Pepsi Lemon & Mint and CocaCola Ginger
These two are the best limited edition sodas I have tasted. Pepsi with lemon and mint is such a great combination, the smell of mint is overwhelming and refreshing.
The coca cola ginger was also overwhelming with the smell of ginger, but the taste was not as strong as I thoght it was gonna be.
CocaCola Strawberry
This one was disappointing, it definitely smelled like strawberries, but the taste is exactly the same as regular coke.
I have tasted a lot more like Pepsi Grape, CocaCola Peach, CocaCola Vanilla, CocaCola Lime, Pepsi Cucumber, and Pepsi Watermelon, but for now those are the ones that I wanted to share with you.
Conclusion
Soda is not healthy, but an occasional drink wouldn't hurt. I only drink if I see a new flavor and usually its just to taste it. In the end nothing beats a refreshing glass of water.
Anyways, I just wanted to share that with you and in the future I wish to blog about random things that I have experienced or happen to me here in Japan. Look out for those and Thank you for checking out my post. :)
By the way Sorry about the headers being messy, I couldn't fix them.

Very interesting Champ! Not a huge fizzy drink drinker myself.. but these large corporations will always experiment and hope to find the next "best thing"!
If it fails.. they have lost very little.
If it takes off.. then they will make another fortune on top of the many fortunes they have already made!!
Take care my friend!:-)
Very true, these products sell like hotcakes and that is definitely the reason why they keep making them, even the questionable ones with Squid and Eel flavor.
Thank you.
Squid and eel flavour eh.... may not be my no 1 choice... but it could be for many others...
A great niche idea there my friend!!
They are very weird and that is kinda the point. This is the pattern I see, weird product = more publicity = more curiosity = more sales.
Thanks again! :)
I understand your theory here Champ... but with those flavours I bet that sales would fall rapidly after the initial curiosity!:-)
Yes, that is true. This has been happening for years, so theres no way they are gonna stop anytime soon. Thank you.
Always interesting to see the different soft drink products available in different areas.
I am sure there are many choices here in Central Texas, USA, I just don't know about them.
The main time I noticed a different choice was in the gas stations when I was traveling more than I am now.
Will be interesting what will be considered different for you.

A lot of places have their own flavors, but in Japan its different, new flavors are released very frequently and each one sells like hotcakes.
I have also seen some questionable food flavors like, Squid Ice Cream, Strawberry Potato Chips, and a lot more.
Thank you.

Thanks for sharing champ. I have been avoiding cokes and pepsis. But yeah like what you've said no harm when taken occasionally or if there is no other choice but I would still limit my intake.
I have gotten used to drinking hot tea even during summer lolz.
Thank you Rowe. I drink teas as well, Barley, Matcha, and Chamomile are my favorites. Salamat! :)
I enjoy hot tea too.
