One Step At A Time-My Progress Thus Far
In my impatience to finish my Certification Course, it sometimes feels like I'm standing still. However, in looking back over the past six months, I am amazed at the progress I have made.
Slow, but sure, the WA tortoise.
I joined WA on November 7, 2017 and went Premium on Black Friday. Since that time, I have made slow, but steady progress one baby step at a time, with several zigs and zags along the way.
I have decided on my niche, bought my domain, purchased my own name domain, built my first website, published six posts, received 39 comments on my website, and this is the 38th post on my blog.
Frustration!
I am not very computer savvy, and was frustrated while learning to use Word Press. But with much support and encouragement from the community, I am now much more comfortable with the computer most of the time.
I also had a challenge getting images onto my already published posts. I was editing and adding the images in SiteContent, and was very frustrated that the images did not show up on my website. Only a blue line with the link was visible. Finally, SiteSupport told me to edit my already published articles in WordPress instead of SiteContent, and that solved the problem.
Much later, someone in the community mentioned in passing that you cannot edit an already published article on SiteContent. That was my problem all along.
Finally, Some Progress!
My First Published Post!
I wrote my first blog post on November 23, and published the first post on my website on November 24.
Once I finally got the images on my already published posts, it has been smooth sailing since then. I now add my images as I type the article, and then publish from SiteContent without a hitch!
Smooth Sailing Ahead!
Brain Fog!
During the time when I was having difficulty with brain fog from fibromyalgia, I knew I was not able to focus on anything new. However, I immersed myself in my niche and made some progress there.
I have been accepted into the affiliate program for VeryFineDanceShoes and received their permission to utilize their logo and images of their dance shoes on my site. I also made contact and discussed ballroom dance shoes with two dance instructors. I am now on a mailing list for information about ballroom dances in the Asheville, NC area and have found resources for ballrooms in other cities as well.
Thanks to Phomrong, I have developed a dancing signature that reflects my niche, and I have received many compliments on it.
I am becoming more comfortable with the computer now, and was so proud of myself for being able to make the changes for GDPR compliance without difficulty, thanks to Kyle, Loes, Marion, Mary, and others who paved the way for us.
My website and 3 of my posts as well as my new Privacy Policy have been indexed in Google. I have received my six month badge, my current rank is 42, I have 1.4K followers in my network, and I am on the verge of graduating to level 3 of the Certification Course.
Shiny Object Detour
In March, I decided to downsize and move to an apartment in town. Thus, I have been very preoccupied with preparations to sell my house, so my time for working on my WA training, content, and the community has been limited.
However, the floor covering has been replaced, the painting is finished, and most of the spiffing up is done except for some minor repairs that will hopefully be done this week. I am hopeful that the house will be ready to put on the market next week, and that it will sell quickly once it is listed for sale. Then I will be able to devote more time and energy to my business.
Future Plans
I am going to complete the series of posts describing a variety of ballroom dance shoe brands that I have been working on, and will be branching out to include dance clothing and jewelry as well.
I am gathering information on adult education dance classes and ballroom dance studios to assist my readers in finding an avenue for learning to dance that suits them and their comfort level.
I am also planning to add dance instruction videos for a variety of dances, such as cha-cha, waltz, swing, polka, foxtrot, rhumba, and others as requested by my readers.
In addition, I will be supplying information on dance rhythms, and sources of appropriate music for each of the featured dances.
I have plans to provide a billboard where ballrooms and dance instructors can post their upcoming dances and information about classes they are offering. This service will also provide information for strangers to find a place to dance when they are in a new city.
I will also be expanding the scope of my website to include folk dances, contra dancing, country and western dancing, and square dancing. As a therapist, I am especially excited about a new specialty that I just discovered...wheelchair dancing.
So you can see, I am not going to have time to get bored! As I have become more deeply involved with my niche, I have uncovered more and more fascinating additions for my website. And the more ideas that I encounter, the more excited I become!
And now for my most recent progress:
I have just completed Level 2!Recent Comments

That is a great summary of what you have accomplished and what your future plans are. Wishing you much success.
This was a great post, Carol. I know the feeling. As I keep saying, keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Excellent write up Carol. You are very articulate and you have clearly studied your niche. Congratulations on your progress! You have big plans and I think you will hit the ground running now. Best wishes for the next steps on your journey!
Jeff
Yeah, so have I. There are a couple Carols that I know of, too. I call one of them "Carol with an E" because she has an E on the end of her name, and sign my messages to her "Carol without an E". Just for fun, of course. It takes so little to entertain me! Have a great day and upcoming weekend. Carol
Wow you busy little beaver you.
I am glad you are getting close to being able to get your house on the market.
When I read you last post I remember thinking that it sounded like a big home.
You have done an amazing job since your first day here.
I love how you already have your niche laid out and very nicely I might add.
There is no doubt that once your life settles down you will make your business a huge success.
Best Of Luck In All you Do

Thanks so much, Lee Ann. I just read your newest post, and hope you will have a wonderful summer with your girls and be able to keep up with your WA work as well. I know it will take some juggling, but I know you will succeed. I could tell how determined you are from your post. Carol
That's a fact, Lee Ann!
To answer your remark about the size of my house, it's really just a 1200 square foot 2/2 mountain cabin. Guess it sounded so big because I had so much work to do.
I have the kitchen cabinets painted now, and the carpenters were here today to install the hardware and tweak a few things that were done poorly in the past.
It's very difficult to find good help around here. People will tell you they know how to do something, and then leave big cracks between appliances or cabinets.
The guy today did a lot of little things that made a huge difference, and didn't even charge me extra. Sort of restores my faith in humanity!
Carol
Wow sounds like a great place though. A cabin/. Heck yeah lol
I understand about finding good help. I have been there myself.
Thank goodness for they guy you had today. That is awesome.
I am really glad that it is almost over as I am sure it will be a huge weight lifted off of your shoulders : )
Lee Ann
It is really great, and the more I get it fixed up, the more I don't want to leave. However, it is isolated, and I don't feel that safe being on the mountain by myself any more. I am going to write a post with pics of my place when I finish the tweaking and take some pics.
My biggest job now is getting my yard tamed. I don't do any mowing...it's too steep, but I do weed eat around the house and the creek so I can see it. I leave most of it wild, though.
I also have a fairy garden that I haven't had a chance to get in and clean out yet. It was a really fun hobby going to thrift stores and finding little items, then creating a story around them. I want to get it set up and leave it as a selling point for the house. I take all the figurines in out of the weather in the winter, and haven't had time to reassemble it yet this summer.
I have "Life's A Beach" with NC's 7 lighthouses; Farming Frolics, a farm scene salute to my IA roots, complete with a corn field; a little village; a "real" fairy section; Teddy Bear's picnic-- all different kinds of bears; Rock Hounds in an old coaster wagon-- different kinds of rocks as a base with all kinds of dog breeds sitting on top of the rocks; and Kampin' Kapers, a fairy camping scene built in an old wheelbarrow--a teardrop camper pulled by 2 Pegasuses (or pegasusii?), I have a lot of fun with it and hope I have time to get it all set up.
Maybe I'll write a post about this hobby sometime. (I sorta think I just did!)
Carol
Awww I am sorry your leaving there. It sounds beautiful and I can tell it is really hard on you to have to leave.
Your safety is definitely top priority.
I can't wait to see the pictures.
The fairy garden sounds amazing.
I know it will be hard to leave send even harder to adjust to the new place.
But I know you will make it a home.
Lee Ann
Thanks, Lee Ann. It will be QUITE a change moving from a secluded mountain cabin to an apartment in town, but I have a lot of friends who live in the same area, and it will be OK. It's just a HUGE change.
Hey Carol Great post! One suggestion for you. Vary the position of the images using the alignment buttons. Put one to the left, one to the right, etc.
This way the text can wrap around the edge of your image and keep the readers eye moving while maintaining visual interest.
Bryan
Thanks, Bryan. I had tried that when I first started using images, but the text didn't go where I wanted it to. Will have to work with it now since I have had more practice. Carol
Congratulations! It was a great journey you had there and thanks for inspiring us.
All the best
Bien
