Sometimes the Universe gives you something you didn't know you needed.
I ran into someone who competed in the same sport I did a long time ago and we were so happy to see each other we decided to have lunch. We caught up on each others lives and families and at some point our sport-in-common came up.
After she finished competing she began teaching. I know this because while I'm not actively infolved anymore, I still have some contacts, and everyone talks. Of course.
She told me that she had notebooks stuffed full of information on all aspects of our sport.
I told her she should start a blog about it. She said no, that she wasn't a writer and that didn't interest her. So...I told her that I had a website, blah, blah blah.
She became very animated and offered me all of her binders so that I could start the blog. She said that she would love for the information to be out there, not hidden in her bookshelf.
As she has been gathering information for many years, while some of it may be outdated, the subject itself would still be relevant, and she didn't have to twist my arm to get me to agree to take the information off her hands.
I offered her compensation and she laughed. She said it had always been a labor of love, not obligation, and that as she was coming to the end of her teaching, and thus her active involvement in the sport and had been wondering who she could pass her wealth of knowledge and her binders on to.
Now, all of this does have a point.
From the time I started my first website, I have been thinking about another niche that would interest me as much as my current one does.
And by jove, I think I've found it.
While the universe has not blessed my often, when it happens I am always grateful. Not only will I have enough information for over 500 posts, I have a network of people I can call on for guest blogs and answers to questions I'm not qualified to respond to.
The moral to this story is;
Don't burn bridges. You never know when an opportunity comes out of left field.
Pay attention for opportunities
Be a good friend
Be thankful for what you have. Sometimes experience is your best friend.
Smile, and be kind. As my grandmother used to say, you attract more flies with honey than vinagar. As a small child I always wondered why anyone would WANT to attract flies, but to each his own.
I was a teen before I realized what she really meant.

What a wonderful world this would be if we showed more kindness to friends and strangers alike.
What a lovely lovely story! And congratulations on that gem of a friend. If we put enough goodness out into the world some of it is bound to come back around.
Best wishes!

Wow, love your story, Candace. Yes never burn honey or you'll end up with vinegar. Sorry, Candace, not good at detail but you know what I mean.
Either they come and haunt you or the universe will pay you back in dividends like it did with you!
Now you go girl and write your stories. We will want to hear it and ohh let us not forget your friend!

Experience really is a great teacher and sometimes someone or something from long ago can do great in the future, as you've discovered here.
Keep us updated as you build out the site.

What a sweet story; thanks for sharing it with us. And what a lovely win-win for you and your friend.
It also makes me wonder how often we all have opportunities presented to us, be we're just too busy to see them for what they are?
Best,
Nancy
That old about taking time to smell the roses is very true.
